Pocket Carry Competition Association
With the increased popularity, this is a good idea:
With pocket guns being the most popular firearm carried for many years because of their convenient size and weight PCCA was created to give people that carry real world concealed pocket guns a place to practice in a realistic defense scenario based shooting sport.

IDPA calls them BUG matches. We have two a year at our club.

Its a very small and very new organization at this point, but I really hope it catches on. Its a great idea, and one that will appeal to the old guard as well as all the new CCW holders out there. This could grow our culture immensely if done right.
*BTW – I am not associated with those guys in any way (I dont even live anywhere near there). I just found out about the story and blogged about it.

Gerry-
Go read their rule book, my understanding is that it is completely different from the BUG matches

It seems odd that that they don’t actually allow you to pocket carry for the matches. You must use a strong side holster.

And next will come those who game the rules, wearing pants with gigantic pockets for quicker draws.

The IDPA bug rules allow for some pretty big guns – Sig 239 comes to mind. CCA excludes these bigger guns.
As a Safety Officer in a different sport, I support the rule where everyone starts with a holster. Just reduces the chance of an accident during a match. Remember, there will be new shooters there and there is really no way for a match director to determine who has the skill/experience to draw from the pocket and who does not have that experience.

oops, typo – CCA in my post above should have been PCCA

Sounds to me like he’s just re-creating the wheel. IDPA already does this, and nothing stops you from shooting a USPSA match with a small gun if you want to.
I’m all for more people shooting, but we already have so many disciplines that I think we should shoot more of what we already have.

I have often wondered why most training is focused on drawing from OWB. I never carry OWB and now that I have a Sig P238, pocket will be my main mode. Maybe a little bit of competition will translate into a few training courses.

I prefer to assume Shootin’ Buddy has not replied to this because he had an aneurysm blow out upon reading it, and not because of some snow or something.
