Speaking of “what the Hell is wrong with this country?”

The US government plans to step up security at hotels and malls. We’re gonna have DHS folks doing security at malls next?

Via JayG, who says they can’t let a crisis go to waste. And it would be a good way to kill off the retail industry.

The bureaucracy is in place and it needs to be stopped.

And this is pretty hysterical:

“The overall message is everything is objectively better than it was a year ago, particularly in the aviation environment. But we’re also looking at addressing other areas,” Napolitano said.

TSA has not prevented a single incident. How is it better?

As TJIC is fond of saying:

    Shovel ready jobs?

  3. jason Says:

It’s better, because the Ministry of Truth says it’s better. Period.

    Mission creepiness…

What she really means is that the government has grown and stabilized a massive federal bureaucracy, with standardized operating procedures and processes, to oversee security in the aviation sector. The government is “doing something”; therefore, security in the aviation sector is now “resolved”.

We are now faced with “doing something” to “resolve” security gaps in the retail and hostelry sectors. This will undoubtedly require hiring additional federal personnel, and developing sector-specific standard operating procedures and processes.

The key is to “do something”: regardless of expense, effort, or consequence. It is what the American people expect from their government; it is the focus of the media and political intelligentsia within the Beltway; and “something” is precisely what the American people will get.

Anyone care to wager the length of time it will take a jihadist to figure out how easily they can slip a bomb into a mall past the typically overweight, lazy, dimbulb types TSA loves to hire?

  7. FatWhiteMan Says:

    Heh, more Mall Ninjas.

We’re gonna have DHS folks doing fake security at malls next?

    FIFY

I agree with her absolutely that everything is objectively better. What she isn’t telling you is what the objective is.

    Hint: It’s not passenger security.

  9. Barron Barnett Says:

My coworkers and I came up with a theory as to why the malls:

“The number of teenage girls at malls is through the roof. Coupled with their soccer mom escorts, it’s a sexual predators wet dream.”

  10. John Richardson Says:

Here are some suggestions for malls that the DHS can patrol. They need the business.

Malls? I stopped going to malls except under severe duress over a decade ago. Anything I want there I can get elsewhere, including amazon.com, usually cheaper and with less hassle.

Shooting up a mall may seem like nice propaganda to the backwards jihadis, but it is very old fashioned. When they realize they can ship a package to any home in the US with a bomb inside, then the fun begins. It only took a decade or so to catch the Unabomber, didn’t it?

  12. Alpheus Says:

If this happens, I think it would be time to go to the malls and shopping centers dressed up as Indians, politely but firmly take out the scanners, and destroy them.

We should probably do that at the airports, too–if not now, then when this happens at the malls.

    “Shovel ready jobs?”

Not yet. We need to apply the rope first.

  14. Gerry Says:

I want to know what they’re going to do when some suicide bomber sets off the bomb while in the middle of the massively long security line.

  15. Mike M. Says:

You realize, don’t you, that this will effectively kill CCW?

Which I suspect is the purpose.

  16. Rivrdog Says:

You’ve ALL missed the mark. We’ve never had a uniformed Federal Police in this country, like most socialist “democracies” in Europe have. In fact, the American electorate probably would never vote for any politico of any stripe who pushed for such a national force of rozzers. The Leftoids have a desire for us to become more like a Europissing socialist clusterfarge, so we now have the TSA muscling in everywhere.

This is how it’s going to happen, a piece at a time, with Gauleiter Napolitano uber alles.

In Portland, we recently opened a new Light Rail line in the ‘burbs, and Bingo!, there were uniformed TSA types riding the trains from Day One. It was never briefed to the public openly, and unless you look at the badges and patches carefully, the TSA Truppen look very much like the Wackenhut private security they replaced.

We have to keep up the pressure, take the White House and the Senate back in 2012, and zero out this agency in 2013. Not PHASE it out, ZERO it out. One day they’re everywhere, the next day they’re gone. If we fail to do that, we WILL be fighting these sturmtruppen face to face within 5 years, and by then, there will be hundreds of thousands of them, and no, they won’t all be Paul Blart, Mall Cop types. Some will be lean and hungry and will be able to shoot and move very well.

“Bearding the Lion” is never a good idea, but if you WERE so inclined, and want to piss off a TSA type, just shrug your shoulders at them and tell them that they’d better enjoy their 15 minutes, because they’ll all be in the unemployment lines come January 2013.

  17. SPQR Says:

Great, we can have a seqeal “TSA Mall Cop”.

  18. Josh A. Says:

I work in a hotel. Hell, I may even have an unexpired security guard license from when I used to work at football games for beer money while I was in school. Does this mean I’ll get to bring my AR with me to work?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
