Deadly Delay

VA Tech broke the law when it waited 2 hours before notifying folks on campus of the danger:

Virginia Tech’s failure to issue timely warnings about the serious and ongoing threat deprived its students and employees of vital, time-sensitive information and denied them the opportunity to take adequate steps to provide for their own safety

But let’s blame the gun, right?

Its the society we live in…. No matter what, somebody is gonna get paid.

I also like how the law is written as “timely warning”…. No clear definition of a specific time period in which they have to sound the warning, which means they were screwed no matter what.

Got to love those damn trial lawyers!

  2. Newman Says:

“The university could lose some or all of the $98 million in student financial aid it receives from the federal government…”

Who does this hurt? The University or the students?

“…and could be fined up to $55,000 for two violations — failing to issue a timely warning and not following its own emergency notification policy.”

A timely warning is BS, it should read “immediate warning” better safe than sorry and let the students decide what actions they want to take, i.e. get the hell off campus. They wouldn’t have paused to expel a student for violating their policy.

Let’s not forget the VA court that found the shooter to be mentally ill but neglected to file the findings. Cho was still able to freely purchase arms and ammunition afterward.

I know I’d feel wronged by not being able to respond in a reasonable manner to the warning of: “shots being fired in my vicinity”. If I hear shots, I should be able to do what’s necessary. If I can’t, because of some ridiculous restriction such as a “gun free campus”, I should be able to find someone to sue the snot out of. These, and zero tolerance, should be attacked at every opportunity. I’m thinkin, perhaps it would be better to ignore the “gun free campus”; that “better to be tried by twelve than carried by six” thing. Nobody should find out, short of the worse happening, anyway.

  5. Kevin Says:

But luckily the school administrators promptly locked down their offices while pretending that there was no danger to anyone.

  6. Andrew Says:

The right to carry on the campus would have minimized the deaths that occured during this crime.

And the failure of the administration was complicit in the additional deaths.

Yet the RKBA is going to be the culprit.

My opinion, slap on the wrist for the college, ALA rangel style. No cut in funding. No fines. Continuing demonization of the RKBA.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
