Bleg: Email Updates
Had a few folks ask me to set up email updates*, wherein the blog automagically shoots them an email whenever I update. I’d want it to have a sign up feature. No idea how to do that. Anyone?
Also, I have a facebook page here if you like to keep up that way. And I got one of them Twitters here, if that’s your thing. I still don’t get twitter, btw.
* Personally, I hate email updates but that’s because a whole bunch of other bloggers have signed me up for theirs for some reason. And, for the record, if you do that, I tell GMail you’re spam.

I set up a separate Twitter account to serve as a feed of my blog posts.

I promo it very, very little but do have almost 200 followers.

I have that setup for the blog portion of a few websites that I manage through feedburner. Basically you create a feedburner account, tell it where the RSS of your blog lies (you can optionally switch out the RSS your blog displays to be the feedburner feed if you want RSS stats – but that’s not required to get the email portion working). Then there is a feedburber option to create a small bit of form code that you can add to your site that let’s people subscribe. The only downside is that I have not figured out a way for feedburner to display the list of actual subscriber emails so I don’t know who subscribes – but it does give me lots of info about how many subscribe that way and what they click on, etc.

Email updates?? Christ, that so last century. Alan’s right. Just tell them to subscribe to your RSS feed like I do.
And if you do set up a twitter feed for the blog, please do it like Michael. I hate getting twitter updates for blogs I’m subscribed to through RSS.

I use the twitter feed for your blog updates. I’d prefer that email updates be for comments on individual posts. I assume that’s built in to WordPress, or is available as a simple add-on.

There is a wordpress plugin available that can do this. Not sure what its called right now but search plugins for notifier. Ill link it in a bit if i get a chance to look for it.
