A look at appendix carry.

Someone alert the Bradys. Appendix carry is truly for the dickless.

“never cover anything with the muzzle that you’re not willing to destroy”.

Sounds like anyone considering this should go with something like the Springfield XD or XDM – or any other gun with a grip safety. Put your thumb on the back of the slide when reholstering and the grip safety is not pressed and the gun won’t fire.

Not terribly relevant for me anyway – let’s just say that I’m not so skinny that I lack room on my hip to hide pretty much any gun on the market.

I’ve tried it, with a large-frame revolver (safest gun to carry at appendix position). You just can’t drive or sit in a vehicle carrying a large gun that way. End of story. Appendix carry is for upright people only.

Your best option to carry a Large Pistol concealed is a good shoulder rig designed for it, and a suitable outer garment (jacket or sport-coat) over it.

Weapon retention is always an issue when carrying Large Pistols, simply because there’s so much more for the grabber to grab on to.

My General Rule is to carry as much gun as will do the defensive job at personal attack range (up to 7 yards), and make that firearm as compact a gun as possible. Less to print, less to grab, less weight to have the body react to (put a full-size Desert Eagle or somesuch on your body and look at yourself in the mirror). For me, that is usually a .380 or 9mm, sometimes a snubby revolver in .357

Car-carry is another matter. Inside your automobile, you should carry the largest pistol you can put into your jockey box or underseat gun-safe.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
