Into the belly of the beast
SAF’s 2011 Gun Rights Conference will be in Chicago. Last one was in San Fran. While I respect and appreciate what they’re doing there and I think it takes some balls, I avoid oppressive regimes. And I definitely avoid spending money in them.

While the 2010 GRPC Conference was advertised as being in San Francisco, a more appropriate description would have been the San Francisco area. The conference was held in Burlingame which is in San Mateo County and near San Francicso International.
I think they’ll be doing the same in Chicago with the conference being held in Rosemont which is outside the Chicago city limits (but in Cook County).
California, as bad as it is, at least has some concealed carry unlike Illinois. I agree with you about avoiding oppressive regimes and giving them your money. However, sometimes it pays to stick it in their faces like the SAF did with their poster campaign in SF.

Chicago is right on the border with Indiana, so the option is available to get a hotel and have most meals there. Indiana respects *everyone’s* permits.

Rob K: Rosemont is pretty far from Indiana. At least a 45 minute drive and likely during the worst time of the day for traffic.
While I understand the desire to avoid repressive regimes we have a lot of really good pro-gun people here, and we are working on changing this state. Unfortunately the Governors race didn’t turn out how we liked, but we were not beaten. We are winning, and we WILL win.
