Worst firearms

The worst Jay has owned. I’ve only hated two. I just don’t like AKs. And the other was a S&W 6906. That thing was awful.

Out of curiosity, what was it about the 6906 that you didn’t like? I have a 4516-1, which is the same basic format, and I have had no problems with it.

  2. SayUncle Says:

Didn’t like the trigger or the ergonomics. And it tended to double feed.

This thread will get a lot of comments…

The only gun I own that I dont like is my Nova 12 ga. Its a great shooter, but the length of pull is just too long for me. The slide also rattles. As soon as I find someone who wants it, its gone baby gone.

Bought a Taurus Millenium PT-111 a few years ago. Spent more time in Taurus’s repair shop than at the range. Sent it back 3x for the slide getting stuck mid battery. Lots of broken polymer pieces inside and polymer shavings. Their attempt at satisfying a disgruntled customer was to keep sending me free mags.

I liked my 6906 so much, I bought another one after I gave the first one to my dad. He didn’t like it so much, though.

I liked everything about my AK except its accuracy (ok the trigger to put it mildly is “military). Solid feel, basically idiot proof, decent cartridge.

But I could not get a five-inch group at fifty yards.

I am not foreclosing the option of a Valmet or Galil should I win the lottery. The AK is a good design. I think it suffers from its creator’s WWII philosophy to make the production as cheap as possible for basically untrained soldiers (cannon fodder).

Bought one of those 9mm Chinese Tokarovs back in the ’90s. Only pistol I ever owned that would Squeeze up Vertically out of my hand while firing it. After the 3rd, Range session, I sold it to a neighbor for about 75% of what I paid for it, and put the cash into my gasoline tank. YMMV, of course.

    S&W SW9VE. Man, what a terrible gun.

  9. Mr Evilwrench Says:

The only problem I have with my AK is the trigger pops out of its hole when I fire left-handed. That’d be awkward under pressure; thinkin it’ll take some machining. Even the accuracy isn’t that bad. I do have a 1911 clone where my index finger catches the slide lock, so it hangs the slide occasionally, but often enough that I wouldn’t want to use it left-handed if there was a chance of having to fire a follow-up shot.

While the trigger and ergonomics are subjective, and everyone has different tastes, the double feeding would be a showstopper. At least the 4516-1 I have does not have that problem. IIRC they did redesign the mags for it, so maybe that was what they fixed? Mine specifically says to only use the ones they made with yellow followers.

I hate the first pistol I ever bought, and the feeling is mutual. That d@mn Ruger RSP-6 shoots like a dream, but when I try to break it down for a complete cleaning, the b@stard always savages me. I’ve lost thumbnails, punctured my palm, barked my knuckles, and torn up my fingers. If I shoot it, I have to clean it, so I haven’t shot it for decades.

A Ruger rep has encouraged me to send it back to the factory, I might just do that if I can find it, since it’s buried deep in the safe.

This thread shouldn’t be necessary, if the gun buyer/operator makes intelligent choices BEFORE the fact.

We get opportunities, so we get into the “I wasn’t going to get one of those, but I couldn’t pass on that price.”

For me, that was my Essex-framed 1911A1, which had a thick, “furry” parkerizing which was everywhere on the gun, even in the slide’s grooves, so the gun failed to get into battery after it warmed up just a little. No more parkerized pistols for me!

I have a Kel-Tec P3AT which blew up in my hand, and after Kel-Tec rebuilt it, it refuses to feed the semi-flat-nosed Golden Saber rounds I love, in fact, only reliably feeds FMJ round-nose ball. Again, only buy a pistol AFTER you’ve shot one with the ammo you want to carry in it.

The “worst” list is all about guns failing expectations. Do your research, and your list will be short.

    Anything that Century assembled.

I had one of their CETME’s once.

Remington 1100 – hated that gun.

Always go back to my old 35 year old Mossberg, which just works.

  15. MJM Says:

–Grendel .380. I doubt you see them anymore. Owners probably threw them into river.
–High Standard Duramatic .22 semi-auto. No doubt, some will disagree–violently– but that’s my experience. Nice gun to shoot, but safety was a cross bolt, sliding horizontally, located toward rear of bolt. Holster jostling would move it from on to off. Very unsafe.
–Beretta 21A cal. .22LR. Malfunctioned repeatedly and several visits back to factory did not cure it. Nice idea early in the trigger-cocking market but poorly executed by manufacturer.

  16. Beaumont Says:

Worst gun was some off-brand South American single-shot 12 ga., bought at a discount store years ago. Recoil would actuate the sliding triggerguard, which was supposed to open the breech. A self-ejecting single-shot 12 sounds great, doesn’t it? Not when it self-ejected the shell so quickly that hot powder gases washed over my face. Plus, a 12-ga. empty in the ear can STING.

Add to that the horrible stock design, which featured more drop than Barbra Streisand’s boobs.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
