NRA and Endorsements

The NRA would like you to know they’ve not endorsed anyone in Nevada yet. Fact it, they should endorse Reid. He’s pro-gun, they are single issue, and Reid’s re-election means we won’t get Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

And if enough Republicans get elected we won’t have Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer either.

I like the NRA rating politicians. I don’t like them endorsing any. (Mostly because they all suck)

  2. Thirdpower Says:

Or Durbin. *Shudder* Just what we need. One Chicago politician in the White House, another in the Senate.

  3. Mad Saint Jack Says:

alan: That is true, but it is not very likely.

IIRC Ed Morrissey and Jim Geraghty say all the planets would need to line up in all the senate races.

  4. Sebastian Says:

Endorsements are done by PVF, because they are considered electioneering. An endorsement has consequences in terms of what kind of help they get from NRA’s election machine. What you’re actually saying is that you don’t want NRA helping out pro-gun candidates, which is a sure path to political irrelevance for the gun rights movement.

  5. Dan Says:

I am pretty are the 2nd will survive Harry Reid being sent down the crapper, even if he apparently now is the best, last, and greatest hope for gun rights.

I cannot say the same for our great republic, however. Mine, and apparently a lot of other folk’s money will not be on Reid.

  6. Mad Saint Jack Says:

45 likely GOP seats, 49 likely Dem seats, six toss-ups.

  7. Mad Saint Jack Says:

I would be shocked if they endorsed Reid because the NRA likes to bet on a sure thing. Reid’s poll numbers look very bad.

    Hmmm.

Gotta get rid of this looking to not lose badly instead of looking to win… Besides, Reid is BAD on guns, not good, anyway. Even with his $61 million dollar pork gift.

The NRA is not single issue. If they are, why are they involved in the North Carolina hunting dog breeding thing? The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting, dogs, or animal husbandry. Remember, Second Amendment single issue…

  10. Blake Says:

Senate Leader Schumer might actually be even better for the GOP in 2012. 🙂

  11. Blake Says:

and/or Independents and Libertarians as well.

  12. Gary Baumgarten Says:

NRA spokeswoman Vickie Cieplak will be live on News Talk Online on the Paltalk News Network on Monday July 12 at 5 PM New York time to answer questions about the recent Supreme Court ruling striking down Chicago’s anti-gun ordinance.

Cieplak will also talk about efforts by the city of Chicago to work around the court ruling –and a new lawsuit that the NRA supports that challenges the latest city ordinance. To talk to Cieplak just go to http://www.joinchatnow.com. Registration is free.

I’m hosting the chat. Hope to see you there!

I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

The problem with that line of reasoning (supporting incumbents over better qualified challengers) is that it gives deference to the politician ABOVE the people/members that elect them.

  14. Steve in TN Says:

@Blake: You are probably correct. Look how Obama is helping the GOP… This year is poised to make 1994 look like a bump in the road for the progressives.

  15. atticus in west texas Says:

You suggest that the NRA should endorse Harry Reid. Color me amazed. Reid has participated in the greatest Congressional rape of the Constitution in history. Do you think for a minute that Reid would stand up to Obama if Obama wants to attack the 2nd amendment? Reid is a political hack who would sell us farther down the river in a minute. You have a choice between a conservative and Reid. The conservative appears to be very supportive of the Constitution. No, the NRA should not endorse Reid. Single issue politics are a strange animal. They work in some situations (local and state politics in particular), and often they will get an incumbant defeated, but for gun supporters to endorse Reid is a foolish choice. I roll my eyes and shake my head slowly.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
