The main reason the politicians in finland do ban the weapons is that many people remember the winter war. Supposedly there are also several million weapons stashed as ww2 leftovers in farm houses all over the countryside. Would be dangerous to try and take these weapons.
Finland also deregulated silencers a few years ago.

Wow, we could use more like that. On the other hand, bureaucrats have the final say on whether or not a person may possess a firearm in the first place.
