NSSF/Harris poll on gun ownership. The number of folks reporting they participate in target shooting is also up. And: In response to a question about why Americans made their most recent firearm purchase, 40 percent of respondents said “home protection” followed by 36 percent citing “personal protection.” Target shooting (30 percent) and hunting (28 percent) came next.

My most recent firearm purchase: because I could afford it. Sadly, “my most recent” is now “quite some time ago.”

Let’s see; 40% + 36% + 30% + 28%. That’s a lot; 134% of respondents. OK sure– multiple reasons.
I didn’t see “because I thought it was really cool” as one of the selections though.
