The Narrative
Been noting how the recent rash of nut jobs seem to defy the lefty and media (but I repeat myself) narrative about crazy people doing violence being right wing, tea party extremists. Add another to the list:
Media Ignores Bomb Threats at Senator Bunning’s Offices
Just in time to get us back on track with the proper narrative comes the Southern Poverty Law Center report Rage on the Right:
The number of extremist groups in the United States exploded in 2009 as militias and other groups steeped in wild, antigovernment conspiracy theories exploited populist anger across the country and infiltrated the mainstream, according to a report issued today by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Pay attention, guys.

I wonder if I qualify as a militia under the Southern Poverty Law Center criteria?

If you read through their “new and expanded” list you’ll probably notice a load of redundancy since, if an organization had multiple subgroups (like state chapters), they counted each chapter separately to bump their total up. Kind of like Obama did with his “saved or created” list.

What I’ld like to see is the number of actual members of these numerous groups.
For example, there are three chapters of the MMM/BC in Illinois. I would bet money that they have less total membership combined than a single one of the county firearm assoc.

I was under the impression that the SPLC had been completely discredited as a source of factual information. Has this changed somehow, or is the post and link just for laughs?

Word: Southern Poverty Law Center = hate group

“Other groups”=Tea Party. Since there is not, in fact, a national or state “Tea Party”, they count each individual who ever attended a Tea Party event as an “other group”…

5 members of my immediate family. We all shoot guns for fun at the range. Sometimes we even used person shaped silhouettes (although frozen water bottles are still a kid favorite). My 6 year old daughter probably doesn’t know what limited government is yet, but she sure doesn’t like it when Daddy taxes her chocolate bar.
I hope we are in the SPLC report, we’re an entire group ourselves (heck, we’ve even been to a tea party protest here in Oklahoma).
