TDOS revoking instructor’s license
Recently, it has been reported that the Tennessee Department of Safety has revoked an instructor license because the license, which had been issued and renewed for many years based on the same training program, is no longer recognized as an “approved school” based on a recent interpretation of the regulations by a staff person at DOS.

NRA Trainers are not limited to NRA Basic courses. Once certified they can devise their own courses, as long as they state they are “Not an approved NRA Course” and they do not use NRA materials. In Ohio the NRA Basic Pistol Course is approved (8 hours), but we have to expand it to 12 hours, The renewal course is not NRA and we have to devise our own certificates.

Duck: This is for TN Carry Permit classes. No NRA necessarily involved.

Some guy in New Mexico was offering concealed carry classes that failed to comply with the requirement for number of hours of training. I don’t know if the state ever made a decision on whether the permits issued to those who took the class should be invalidated or not.

Two Ohio instructors were sentenced yesterday (30 and 45 days, 1K-2K fine, and “community service,” you have to wonder what that will be) for various infractions, but mostly not requiring students to show up for class. Every CCW “of people they were able to identify” has been revoked, but no charges have been announced for customers who “bought a license.”
Fourth degree felony, may result in disarmament?
Of course, this is what you may call an extreme case.

What most people don’t realize is when one swears out a statment to the State Police saying ‘x number of students did ‘y’ number of hours and passed, and then the instructor sends in the $$ that is required, well THAT IS MAIL FRAUD if it’s false.
It’s a federal offense and there have been CCW instructors nailed with that.
Be careful when you teach. Make sure you follow the law else you end up with a federal rap.

From the Link: “It is my understanding that only the NRA program – which itself warns that its certification cannot be used for teaching courses other than approved NRA courses – is available to civilians.” was what I was referring to.
The Instructors have to be certified by somebody.
On the application to become a Tennesse Instructor you have to attach your certifications. We can train out the basic courses. Just have to state it’s “Not and NRA approved course, and not use NRA materials.
