Brandishing Law

In Utah, lawmakers debate legislation that says gun owners can’t be prosecuted for displaying a firearm as a warning.

If the language is right, this is a good idea. It is a clear warning. As of about 2000(give or take a year) According to Cornell Law Univ. 48% of folks who defend themselves with a handgun never fire a shot. Seems that the bad guys come to get your money, car, women, children or life but they dont come to get SHOT! Most of the time when the aggressor sees that it is going to be a gun fight not a mugging they flee to find an easier victim.

Current Utah law is a mess when it comes to firearms and need to be updated. Last year we had three new laws passed that clarified existing law. This bill does the same thing, clarifies existing law.

It’s a good idea. Texas, as far as I know, has no brandishing laws. Texas also regards the threat of deadly force the same way it regards deadly force itself as far as what conditions must be met to warrant the use of deadly force.

The way it’s written here, it coincides with the training we receive in CHL class that says we are to use the minimum amount of force necessary. If we can pull the gun and make Senor Bad Guy rethink his current career path, then great. If not, well, sorry Senor Bad Guy. It sucks to be you.

Did anyone notice the note, on the left side of that page, about the cop who shot himself in the hip while holstering his gun at home? The comments are good.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
