You know what we haven’t done in a while? Had a 1911 v. Glock fight.

Jeff Mau started it:

Some guns are inherently more accurate than others. No doubt that a tightly fit 1911 or a 6” S&W 686 is more mechanically accurate than a Glock 19. This is not a subjective feeling based on your body shape. It is a mechanical reality and can be proven by anyone that can properly align the sights and press the trigger straight to the rear at the same time.

True enough, I would say. My Para is more accurate than my Glock. But some guns are inherently more reliable. My Para will not feed PMC ammo and has failed to eject on a couple of occasions with other ammo. Something my Glock has never done. It’s gone bang every time I’ve pulled the trigger whether it was clean, dirty, wet, oiled or dry.

Discuss.

While we’re at it, my particular carry caliber of choice is superior to your particular carry caliber of choice.

Also a Glock, a 1911, and a 6″ Revolver are hardly the same gun. They all shine in different ways.

That being said my 1911 TOTALLY Pwns Jay’s Glock!
    http://stuckinmassachusetts.blogspot.com/2009/11/super-mondo-mega-comparo.html

My gun measures 1.1″ across the wing of the safety, 1.01″ across the grip panels (McCormick Slim Grips), and 0.95″ Across the slide. beat that GASTON!!!11!!

  2. Weer'd Beard Says:

Of course just to further play with the game, My 1911 has far more controls and therefore failure points, and retails a bit more than Jay’s Glock (and generally 1911s will run a bit more because of manufacturing methods, as well as S&W’s spendy alloy for the frame)

So again they’re hardly the same gun. Tho Jay and I use ours for about the same reason : ]

  3. Skullz Says:

I love my 1911, SA TRP, and it’s never given me a problem, eaten anything I fed it and is more accurate than my Glocks. Of course, both the 1911 and the Glock are more accurate than ME.

    I carry a 1911 every day and a G33 as a BUG ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Nate Says:

Of course 1911’s cost more, they are made of steel, and steel requires forging and real men to make. Glocks are made of all ceramic and dried play-doh, little old ladies do ceramics on the weekends and my toddler makes play-doh guns all day long.

  5. Tomcatshanger Says:

Glock 30’s tend to be fairly accurate, something about how they lock up tends to make them accurate, especically for small .45’s.

  6. Mu Says:

So, your 100 years in development custom 1911 is more accurate than your first generation out of the box Glock. I wonder if you’d say the same if you were shooting an original military 1911 in about 1930.

  7. mike w. Says:

Sure a quality 1911 is inherently more accurate, but does that really matter?

They’re more than accurate enough for their intended purpose.

  8. LFS Says:

I’m no expert and have only been doing this gun thing for less than a year. But I gotta wonder what’s with all the Glock love. In my intro class, the provided Glock 19 jammed on me twice. And my instructors own Glock jammed on him a couple of times. Alright, not everything’s perfect. Two weeks ago a friend of mine and I rented a Glock 34 at the recommendation of the range officer. It was damn accurate. But jammed on me a couple of times, and jammed on my friend SIX times in a row. I just don’t get it.

    I don’t have any 1911s.

  9. The Duck Says:

my 1911 Commander is thinner , and easier to carry, and as Clint Smith says “it’s a big gun when I put it in a holster, and it’s a big gun when I take it out of the holster” Glocks are ok but they are not perfect.

  10. Dan Says:

When was the last time you heard rappers ‘singing’ about 1911s? Glocks pwn 1911s.

  11. Stuart_the_Viking Says:

    Just for fun.

    Glocks are getto trash guns.
There is nothing aesthetically pleasing about a glock.
When the various police agencies moved to the glock pistol there was a marked increase in accidental discharges.

BUT (just so I’m not TOTALLY hating on glocks), on the positive side for glocks. On the rare occasion that a glock breaks down (and it is rare) it can usually be fixed by the average (mechanically capable) dude with a handfull of cheap spare parts as long as he’s done a little reading and know how they snap together (like one of those cheap snap-tite model cars).

1911: a great gun when my great-grandpa used it.

Thankfully, we don’t have to suffer the risks & limitations of cocked&locked single action pistols anymore.

  13. Daniels Says:

Repent unbelievers! And Forget Ye Not the Gospel of John (Moses Browning) 19:11

  14. Phelps Says:

ZOMG!!! An accurized 1911 is accurate? More accurate than a factory Glock costing 1/3 the price? Whodathunkit?

Seriously, I’ll listen to people on this when we are comparing factory to factory, or custom guns to custom guns. But this is like comparing a Shelby Mustang to a Camero. Drop the Shelby part and we have an argument, otherwise let’s go custom to custom.

And LFS, some of your problem may be technique. If someone is having that many jams with any automatic (not just Glocks) the first thing I ask is if they are limp wristing the pistol. Automatics feed on recoil, and if you are compensating for the recoil by letting the gun roll back too much, then there won’t be enough energy to feed the weapon and return to battery properly.

  15. Fiftycal Says:

I like my .25 Lorcin. I read on the net that every handgun bullet was the same as any other bullet in terms of “stopping power”, so I have the .25 and carry 50 rounds, loose, in my back pocket. Pretty much loaded for bear.

  16. Huck Says:

Smith and Wesson model 10, discussion over. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Caleb Says:

Someone had probably better tell Dave Sevigny, Jessie Abbate, and Bob Vogel that their Glocks aren’t as accurate as the 1911s of all the shooters whose asses they have been kicking.

  18. The Duck Says:

There are risks & limitations with a cocked & locked 45?? I would guess for some pushing the safety down might pose a challenge.

  19. RML Says:

    “Glocks are getto trash guns.”

Distinguished Austrian white man here to see you . . . with a dictionary in his hand.

  20. Ian Argent Says:

Geez – is the cost of heating fuel that high that y’all have to rekindle flamewars? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have a plan, let me have examples of both to test long-term along with the ammo – I’ll let you know in a few years what I’ve found

  21. straightarrow Says:

ok,ok,ok, I’ve tried to avoid this topic as a little less than useless, but I guess I just have too many humanitarian tendencies.

I just could not bring myself to shoot someone without very good cause, and it just seems to be inhumane that if provided with that good cause one would shoot someone with an “UGLY” gun. No glocks. At least let them leave this earth with a little pride in the instrument of their demise.

  22. SayUncle Says:

But Glocks are pretty on the inside.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
