Shooter was a psychiatrist
Odd. Also, seems they haven’t let out much info on the other two suspects. I’ve heard reports that they don’t know if they were involved. And reports they were part of an ambush.
Also, the guy may have shot himself. That doesn’t sound very Jihad.
A nurse friend of mine always jokes that Psychiatrists are even nuttier than their patients most of the time.
Sounds like a case of real domestic terrorism to me.
Hope they’re able to determine who planned it, financed it, etc (assuming the responsible parties aren’t all dead).
I am going to wonder out loud if the other two suspects could have grabbed guns, and tried to respond to the shooting. Then got mixed up in some kind of friendly fire situation. It could explain the story about M-16s.
Not necessarily domestic. He seems to have got a degree from Damascus University http://www.vitals.com/doctor/profile/1811199052. Could be spontaneous jihad or could be a sleeper. But it’s jihad one way or another.
FOX reported this guy was born in Virginia, ROTC, etc. He worked at Walter Reed for six years. He was against the war in the ME.
I’m not getting a terrorism vibe off this. I think this is going to end up as another “nut with a gun.”
FOX is talking to his cousin. He’s been in the military since before 9/11 and he’s been asking to NOT go to the war zone since then. He’s been trying to get out of going over there.
another “only one” nut with a gun.
Guy on fox now is talking about him saying muslims should rise up against the “oppressors” (us mil)
So he was born in VA but got his degree in Syria? Odd…
There is more than one doctor in the USA with the same name. This one got one degree at Virginia Tech.
There is more than one shrink who practiced at Walter Reed with that name? Of course the website could be wrong. Known to happen. And it is certainly possible that he was born here and got a degree in Syria, it’s just not what one would expect.
So he was born in VA but got his degree in Syria?
Not that odd if he happened to grow up in Northern Virginia and if he went to the Saudi Academy (THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT HE DID, JUST THAT IT WOULD BE ONE POSSIBILITY).

Seems he took “advanced shooting courses,” which could be total BS. Do medical personnel normally train on enemy weapons? Maybe if they’re about to be deployed, I suppose.
I’ll go out on a limb here and say that the guy snapped. He was not a ‘convert’ per his cousin and has been in the Army a long time. His cousin said he had outspoken beliefs about the war in Afghanistan and the ME in general and the fact that they were going to deploy him in all likelihood pushed him over the edge.
Sad all the way around.
If you think about it, this is another mass shooting in a basically gun-free zone. The army is notoriously afraid of guns soldiers’ hands.
I always kinda wondered why the gate guards at Camp Pendleton (marines) were not visibly armed; wonder if that’ll change.
From what I understood from his cousin, his college education was paid for by the military (ROTC). Would they have paid for college in Syria?
Ed, that couldn’t be him. The shooter was 39. If he was completing medical school in 1990, he would have been a child genius.
Here’s the Virginia medical license data on the right Dr. Hasan: http://www.vahealthprovider.com/results_edu.asp?License_No=0101238630
He hasn’t been out of school that long.
Wanda, you are probably right. I wonder where that other site got it’s info from. Still, it would be quite a surprise if there was another Nidal M. Hasan practicing psychaitry at walter reed.
