The lady will get off. Her husband will take the fall. All men are criminally stupid, even when they are trying to be thoughtful. They will hold a big wake for the dog, she will name a new foundation or grant after it, collect lots of money. Hubby will be hounded into hiding(sorry) by the press, but she will publicly forgive him and let him come home. If she plays it right, Dear Leader will donate a PortWaterDog puppy to her to help her in her grief.
