Carry permits up

In Florida:

Terry McElroy, a spokesman for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, says his agency is so overwhelmed with concealed- weapon permit applications it doesn’t open packages until they’ve been in the mailroom for two months.

Virginia’s applications are up 42% from last year. And last year was a record year.

  2. Mikee Says:

So that money specifically from and for license application processing that the FL legislature grabbed, was it ever returned to pay for the processing of licenses? Cuz it sounds like the people of FL could use it right now.

  3. Bruce Says:

The governor vetoed the money grab. Oddly enough, Florida laws says that a permit must be either approved or denied (for cause) in 90 days from the date the application is received. There are no exceptions due to high number of permit applications, understaffing or underfunding. I have also heard of an unusual number of “illegible” fingerprints with the applications, which sounds very much like a delaying method. Gun owners must follow the law; the state–not so much.

This is the sound of me not holding my breath as I wait for my FL CCW permit to arrive.

Most people want a permit and do not want to force it by a court case, however if they heard they can get by court some may do that soon.

I am mildly hopeful that SCOTUS will hear the NRA case vs Chicago and incorporate the 2A, then we can push for carry in states that are reluctant to allow it for OC. MD is a will issue but that means no issue, so if incorporated we can push for shall issue and have the court on our side. Becasue the 2A allows ownership and carry and we have not a court case on carry yet since most states allow it and only a few disallow.

Plus with the Congress pushing for carry in NPS the national push to allow carry either open or concealed is an underlying wish.

Tennesee was an important state to allow carry in restaurants because we have the momentum and need to push to get carry accepted about everywhere.

Every win is important. Keep up the good work.

  6. Lyle Says:

Vermont carry is free, and the state employees can do other things, like play cards or whatever.

  7. George Says:

I am already at the 90 day mark waiting for my CCW permit in Texas. They are very backed up and the average now seems to be about 120 days.

  8. L Says:

I can say that Texas is like this as well. I sent off the paperwork for mine in late January and just got mine last Friday.

  9. Bruce Says:

Update: My wife just got her Florida CCW license after only 5 months. Application sent mid-Dec, permit received late May; sounds like 90 (government) days to me…

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
