Times have changed. LA has really changed.

You think times have changed, you should see the 1925 UofM girls rifle team. That picture was taken in Washington, DC. Try doing that today.

    So two weeks ago. 😉

Doh! I knew I got that picture from somewhere.

Women’s shooting is alive and well at the collegiate level, an unintended consequence of Title IX rules that have made it a female-only sport at Nebraska, TCU and Ole Miss. Other teams are co-ed. Women dominate.

High school JROTC had an air championship match at Camp Perry last week, and they had to put on extra relays because it was over-subscribed.

If precision shooting survives into the next generation, it will owe nothing to gun-bloggers, who go out of their way to be ignorant of the 50+ colleges who field NCAA smallbore teams every season. It’s fun and comforting to hold forth on how things used to be, and we are so f*cked-n-all, but real athletes are out there right now trying to save the sport, and the Fudds, mall ninjas and pistoleros really don’t care.

Junior Olympic shooting trials begin next Thursday at Colorado Springs, by the way, and Rose-Hulman is having its program shut down and could use a few letters of support.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
