So much for backing gun rights
In this bit on rising gun sales, Obama’s respect for the second amendment includes a desire to ban the most popular sporting rifles in the country and concealed carry:
Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he’ll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault and concealed weapons.
If by interpret you mean actually know, then sure. He’s said it himself.
Meanwhile, David Hardy notes a prediction:
Supporting it is an insider DC tip that his people are seriously considering a federal ban or restriction on “right to carry” laws. Exactly where the constitutional power to enact such a measure is to be found is less than clear to me.

Well, heller decided the “keep” part. if they enact a national CCW ban, then we’ll just have to have the “bear” part clarified for them.

“Exactly where the constitutional power to enact such a measure is to be found is less than clear to me.”
Since when has that ever stopped anyone? I’ve seen a lot of laws passed that shouldn’t have even been put up for a vote.

What is this “constitution” thingy of which you speak?

“Stroke of the pen;law of the land.”

You know how there’s no constitutional authority to have national concealed carry, except by this outlandish herpes theory of the commerce clause? This is the roosters coming home to roost, as a certain preacher was known to have said.

I should clarify, there is one theory that might allow it: the fourteenth amendment. But that’s not how Congress proposed to do national concealed carry.

go ahead, ban concealed carry. It’ll work the cops more as people go open carry and idiots freak out. Just think of all the sheeple at soccer games, or anywhere else for that matter, who’ll wet themselves.
It actually might not be a bad thing, we can start to network in the open forming a wider “gun community”, and desensitize the herd. Criminals won’t obey the laws so anyone reaching inside clothing and pulling a gun can be sent to see the Big Judge upstairs.
I’d almost be down for this little bit fed power grab unconstitutional overstepping of bounds. Unintended consequences.

This is where the Democrats are going to step on their schwanzstuckers.
If you are some policy wonk who never sets foot outside The Loop, Manhattan, or the Beltway, you don’t know anyone who carries a gun. You don’t know anyone who owns a gun. It’s just a couple rednecks up in the hills, right?
Yeah…

I need to go find this A-holes that sent me something prior to the election, some group “American ” something something, about how I should support Obama and he wouldn’t try to take away guns.
Idiots.
