Where Great Britain Used To Be

Seen at Rachel’s:

ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

If you read down in the original article someone is quoted as allowing this “over my dead body”. It would appear not all are on line for this as yet, but it getting dangerously close.

Need we be reminded, Sharia law also presumes to control non muslim populations as well.

I bet a lot of the people here in the US who are shocked at this wouldn’t bat an eye if Christian law were given a more prominent role in our judicial system. (Pretty safe bet, given the number who want to plaster the Ten Commandments everywhere, and who bleat on about the “Christian foundation” of our legal system.)

I’m not sure this is as bad as it sounds. If both parties agree to it, I have no problem with people settling civil issues with mediators, sharia law or even paper rock scissors. I do, however, find it rather interesting that domestic violence is a civil issue instead of a criminal one.

    Tgirsh:

What on earth is Christian law? I’m not aware of any nation where the Church has any real temporal authority, outside of Vatican City.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
