A Wal-Mart to open in Brooklyn

No, I kid. But it wouldn’t surprise me.

BTW, the new Wal-Marts don’t sell guns, I don’t think. And the new one in Maryville definitely does not.

The Wal-Mart at Walkersprings does not sell guns as well, but the one in Jefferson City still does (and I saw two uniformed police officers shooting the breeze when I dropped by there as well–unfortunately, no one I knew).

I vaguely remember a few years ago hearing that walmart was trying to go more “upscale” to compete with stores like Target. I betcha this is part of that strategy.

Actually, it’s not, wizardpc. They tried that, but it was a miserable failure. In fact, the NYT has done multiple profile pieces about the experiments as they were introduced and as they failed. This is a different decision, and from what I’m hearing inside the Beltway, this may have to do with the attitudes of one or two high ranking people.

Why in the world does Maryville need a new Wal-Mart? I mean, there’s like half a dozen in Knox county alone IIRC.

As for them selling guns, if they will not sell guns anymore I will just go somewhere else to buy them. Simple as that.

My favorite picture I missed because my PDA crashed was at Mal-Wart. Someone had taken a shelf full of clay pigeons and cut the front and tops of the boxes open. All you could see was a wall of neon orange. Obviously, some stocking salesdroid though someone would pop in and buy a fragile clay puck or two at $3 a pop.

Anyway, every store I’ve seen in Maryland is downsizing the shooting sports section. Every single one. I’ve got to drive 20 miles to buy my clays at Bass Pro nowadays.

Trying to “upscale”: your big box of cheap crap on the cusp of a(n official) recession is about as stupid a move as you can make. (If I were you, I’d dump those K-Sears shares right away)

If Wal-Mart reports a crappy quarter, you can be sure that we’re all in deep economic dodo.

Looks like I’ve finally got all the reason I need to boycott WallyWorld without feeling like a hippie or a Democrat. But I repeat myself.

    Thanks for the info Bitter.

By the way, I’m getting married in 2 months and I’ve got 4 Wal-mart junior execs coming to Nashville from Bentonville. You can bet this will come up.

Wal-Marts in most states still sell rifles and shotguns but not in all cities of those states. Wal-Marts in Alaska sell handguns. The Alaska stores that do not maintain an on-hand inventory will order your pistol or revolver of choice.

    As predicted….

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
