1911ity

Neat:

Update: Ya know, 1911ity just isn’t as cool as Glockity. Glock wins again!

Firstly, the gloves are off, second, is there supposed to be a pic or movie or something there? I just see a large white expanse.

  2. SayUncle Says:

there’s a movie there. a cool one too.

  3. Robert Says:

I just sat here with my 1911 and learned several things I didn’t know….and I shoot a lot of 1911 and competitive pistol. Thanks for posting this!

  4. ben Says:

argh, stupid 64-bit linux. I have to get the right plugin.

  5. ben Says:

glockity sucks, I’ve never seen it, but I know it. That was pretty cool though.

  6. HardCorps Says:

Glock may win in the metrosexual naming dept, but 1911’s win in categories that matter πŸ˜‰

  7. SayUncle Says:

but 1911’s win in categories that matter

    Wanna bet?

well, it is 2008. all the cool kids gave up linux in about 03

Not true! Besides, what do you run? Mac? *wretch*

I do run Vista now as on my computers, which all dual boot, but I’m primarily a Gentoo guy. I even run it on a crap-stick server out in the garage. Serves up my consulting company email and (lame) website. Lemme know if you need any work from PhD level control systems engineers πŸ™‚

  10. Ravenwood Says:

Gotta side with the 1911 here. With my Glock, I shoot consistently in the 7 ring. The double action only pull is long and clumsy, and I cannot hit anything with it.

It’s not the gun, so much as it is me. A Marine Corp friend of mine can hit dead center with my Glock. But if the shit hits the fan, I’m better off throwing it at the guy then trying to shoot him with it.

On the other hand, I bought a cheap GI-model Springfield 1911, and I hit dead center consistently.

Can’t argue with results like that.

    xp

    well, different folks and all.

it’s not that ben’s running linux, it’s that he’s trying to get all fancy and running 64-bit linux. video plays just fine on my 32-bit ubuntu 7.10 (which beats on xp like a playground bully on a little sissy wimp, btw).

  13. SayUncle Says:

which beats on xp like a playground bully on a little sissy wimp, btw

But, ya know, can’t run minesweeper.

But, ya know, can’t run minesweeper.

what you smoking? i’ve got a perfectly good minesweeper in my Applications -> Games menu. just a few slots below the freecell, and the DOS emulator running my ancient copy of Ultima 6, but above the ported-to-linux set-free version of Star Control 2. there’s a free-software derivative of Quake 3 up at the top of said menu, too.

seriously, what i’m mostly missing is a webcam recorder / low-end video editor. there’s no good equivalent of movie maker for Ubuntu, it seems. plenty of much higher-end, semi-pro video editors, but nothing for mere mortals. same on the audio recording-and-editing side (although, thankfully, plenty of good CD rippers).

Man, is it easy to get us *nix geeks foaming at the mouth. πŸ™‚

  16. Tom Stone Says:

I bought my first 1911 at 21 years and 1 day of age,a LW commander.I traded it and $200 for a full size accurized 1911 with a 38 super conversion kit a year later, and still have and shoot that 95 year old pistol (today,as a matter of fact). It goes bang every time and shoots where I point it,much more accurately than I can hold.I have shot many modern pistols, and some are quite nice, but I’ll stick to my 1911 because it is completely reliable and almost a part of me after 35 years.

  17. Regolith Says:

Damn, that had to of taken a long time.

  18. Nylarthotep Says:

Man I thought this was to set of the 1911 owners, not the Linux owners.

I’d say this has been a very successful agitation entry.

I’m going to side with 1911 and XP. I use linux of way to many flavors at work and the user experience is just nicer in XP. But then, some people like Glocks, not much accounting for taste.

*Grin* – You’re on, Uncle. See ya in August!
    BTW, what stakes?

  20. Robert Says:

This animation is much better when you put on KC and the Sunshine Band’s “Boogie Shoes”.

  21. HardCorps Says:

Trigger creep, barrel length, sight radius – do these categories ring a bell?

  22. _Jon Says:

    That animation is f-ing fantastic.
If I were a Liberal (:shudder:) I would require all manufacturers of anything anyone would need to maintain should have to produce and release a similar video.

I got a stiffy watching it – and I’m not in either the 1911 or the Glock camp…

  23. another anon Says:

So is there a similar video showing a Glock assembly?

    BTW, OSX > Linux > XP πŸ˜›

And Sig > Glock, Sig > 1911. Glock and 1911…. roughly equal, they’re just different, and both represent excellent executions of differing design goals. Sigs (by which I mean the P22x line) split the difference IMO and do so in a way that combines the best aspects of both. I for one am a big believer in the DA/SA.

  24. HardCorps Says:

I owned a P220, but the trigger was slightly less crappy then the glock’s. Plus, it’s fat for no reason.

  25. straightarrrow Says:

My 1911 feels like an extension of arm. No other handgun ever has.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
