More on Brady Rankings

From the NRA:

More Gun Laws, More Violent Crime

In January, the Brady Campaign released its annual “State Report Cards,” scoring the states according to their gun laws.

Once again, the Brady rankings clearly demonstrate that states that have the most gun control tend to have the most violent crime.

And some numbers:

* California, the state that has the most gun control and received Brady’s highest score (79), has violent crime and murder rates that are 14% and 23% higher, respectively, compared to the rest of the country.

* Brady didn’t bother giving a score to Washington, D.C., which has more gun control than California and even higher crime rates.

* Most of the 38 states that Brady gave 20 or fewer points to, have total violent crime, murder, and robbery rates that are below the national rates.

* For states that have total violent crime, murder, and robbery rates that are below the national rates, Brady gave average scores of 19, 19, and 14, respectively.

* For the 10 states with the lowest total violent crime, murder, and robbery rates, Brady gave average scores of 12, 12, and 9, respectively.

But they did give a score to D.C. They gave it a “B”. Seems they copied it from last year or something.

Correlations are great things… granted, they are not causations, but they make for fun number games.

As for the rankings, does anyone really pay attention to those, except the admittedly small choir that the Brady bunch is preaching to? Well, that is, besdies the fact that it gives us pro-rights people a list of things to work on…

  3. SayUncle Says:

linoge, the press re-prints it like it’s gospel.

  4. Linoge Says:

Well, I was kind of counting the press as part of that choir, but, you are right, repeat a lie often enough and it becomes “common knowledge”.

  5. Firehand Says:

And the press, mostly knowing nothing of firearms, repeats it and believes it. Like the ‘gun that can only be used by the owner’ category. Damn thing doesn’t exist, but they spout it and the media repeats it. Endlessly.

  6. K-man Says:

Everybody who wants to own a gun should be allowed to purchase a gun with as little government involvement as possible. While the background checks for those of us who play by the rules, works 100% of the time, there will always be a way to get a gun for somebody who is motivated and cares little about the law. The Brady bunch would like to outlaw all guns and turn all of our ability to protect ourselves over to law enforcement. So, when all guns are outlawed only outlaws will have them. Also, don’t forget to queue up the tyranical government keeping us in line at the point of a gun….

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
