Not a no knock warrant

The raid that resulted in the death of a police officer was not a no knock raid.

““I heard a bam,” but no warnings from police, McReynolds said. “There was no police sirens, nothing.” Standing on his porch Wednesday and pointing to the spot on the sidewalk where emergency crews tried to save Shivers, McReynolds said nothing adds up in his mind.”

Claiming it wasn’t a no-knock warrant doesn’t make it true. I’m not saying that they’re necessarily lying. But there have been, and continue to be, a lot of discrepancies with this whole situation. So it’s not unreasonable to think that someone is lying here.

Agreed. If the police “announced” themselves as they smashed down the door, it’s technically not a “no-knock” entry, but does it really matter? I’m sorry, but I just no longer giv ecops the benefit of the doubt in these situations.

I’m with you there. The conduct of cops in general in the last few years has left me real doubtful about their integrity.

“A Chesapeake Police spokeswoman said the narcotics team knocked on Frederick’s door and announced themselves as police before forcing their way inside.”

I guess the Chesapeake cops consider smashing a door with a battering ram to be “knocking”.

Also, the police aren’t officially trained to react that way yet. That caused some problems in the LA riots, where LAPD and the National Guard were working together. Some NG were bodyguarding LAPD, and as the LAPD went into a house, they told the NG to “cover me.”

So the NG guys covered them the way they were trained to. Several hundred rounds were fired into the house when the LAPD guy expected them to point weapons at the house and look scary. Oops.

There needs to be a standard for police announcing themselves. Mumbling the word “police” two seconds before you knock down the door doesn’t cut it.

How about a requirement to announce through a bullhorn before entering on a warrant? If the cops have time to secure a warrant they’ve got time to retrieve a bullhorn from the station.

I was there as a National Guard Infantryman and the incident you refer to was done by Marines, not Cali NG. There were Marines and regular Army troops there too.

And yes, we had to bodyguard the friggin LA cops. The pussies were scared to go anywhere without a NG infantry squad coming with them. Hell, we were even guarding the Police stations!

How about a requirement that they have to videotape the entire raid. Tape mysteriously disappears or gets edited? Well then, we’ll just assume that the police planted everything.

Come on now, they are public servants, and video technology is inexpensive, lightweight, and mature technology, there’s really no excuse here.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
