I think that the justification for fingerprinting crossing guards is stronger than for fingerprinting gun buyers. There are quite a few known cases of convicted child molesters who got hired at schools, whether it was by false ID or just that the school system didn’t bother to check for criminal records. I doubt there’s any proof that any felon or mental defective was ever thwarted from buying guns by the fingerprint check; in the first place, it’s pretty clear that criminals hardly ever buy guns from stores or anyone else that can run a NICS check. In my admittedly limited experience, if someone with criminal inclinations wants to buy a TV (say), he’ll check around among his criminal pals for a deal on a stolen item before he’ll pay full price at Walmart – and this preference for buying from other criminals will only be increased when it’s something that he can’t legally buy or possess.

in fact people who can legally possess an item may still determine to go underground to buy tto avoid supplying any more fodder for the abuse machine.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
