Huh?

How’d he do that: A sheriff’s deputy who killed six young people at a house party in Crandon, Wisconsin, apparently died after shooting himself three times in the head with a .40-caliber pistol, the state attorney general said.

    Is that even possible?

  2. grizzly Says:

I saw that this morning. My wife and I both thought that was rather ..umm…suspicious, to say the least. I’m not gonna come out and say that the AG is a liar but I haven’t been able to work out the mechanics of it yet.

  3. Robb Allen Says:

Duh.. He used a “Police Style Pistol”. For you and me, that’d be an assault pistol, capable of 3 round bursts or full auto selection that can mow down entire school buses full of school children from 3 miles away.

  4. Bitter Says:

I asked Sebastian that as I was driving home last night. I’m baffled.

  5. Bitter Says:

Oh, and Robb, the AG said that two of the head wounds he gave himself were non-lethal.

  6. Rustmeister Says:

I’m calling BS on that. The concussion from the first shot, even a non-lethal one, whould have most likely prevented a second shot, let alone a third.

    I smell a cover-up.

  7. SayUncle Says:

Well, you know, I once knew I guy when I worked in a prison who accidentally fell down the stairs. 7 times.

  8. Robb Allen Says:

Bitter, sorry. Forgot to close my sarcasm tag 😉

I dunno. The human body is a lot more resilient than most people think. If he was stupid and tried through the mouth, aiming low… people have survived doing that to themselves with rifles. Usually they don’t have the energy to try and finish things, though.

I doubt it was the cops downing him. They don’t tend to get their until after the fact, I’d hope they’d be bringing a rifle or shotgun to the fight, and if the average police officer was using a pistol we’d be talking about the dozen bullets in the rest of him. SuperCop could have done it, I guess.

Of course, I kinda like this explanation if the issue weapon was something in 9mm or .45 and there weren’t any known CCWers around.

BRINGS NEW MEANING TO THE SAYING S&W .40 CAL (SHORT AND WEAK) LOL!!!!!!

  11. Phelps Says:

Yeah, I was told by a doctor who worked for a short time at the Gun and Knife Club at Parkland that 85% of the gunshots to the head survived. The brainpan is pretty small compared to the head in general. Most people get shot in the jaw or the lower skull, which is only lethal if you bleed out. If the police had already wounded himself, then it isn’t that unbelievable that he had trouble finishing himself off.

“The three gunshot wounds to the head included two nonfatal rounds with entry points below the chin, and one fatal shot that entered Peterson through the right side of the head,” Van Hollen said.

I have seen several cases of people shooting (including with a shotgun) themselves or others in the had without fatal results. I know its fun to come up with conspiracies and coverups, but incompetence is far more likely explanation. Besides, given that according to this story the police didn’t even get close enough to see him except for a sniper, apparently:

Kegley owns a construction and roofing company housed on his property. Three of his workers were at the house, and as Peterson lingered, they called 911 “as many as 20 times,” Kegley said.

Sometime around 10:30 a.m. when there was still no apparent sign of police, Mike Kegley left the house to “find out where the hell they were,” he said.

His wife followed him a little while later. His son still refused to leave.

Kegley met up with law enforcement agents down the road from his home, drew them maps of his property, the buildings and where Peterson had been talking to his son. Kegley and his wife were told they could not return to the house.

Law enforcement agents, by the dozens, fanned out around his property – but apparently made no attempt to actually get Peterson.

If you’re going to disable your brain with a handgun, don’t put the gun in your mouth. Put it directly between your eyes. Instant shutdown.

  15. Alcibiades McZombie Says:

I once heard a story about a WWII German general who was supposed to commit suicide (for displeasing Hitler or something). He first shot himself by pointing the gun at his temple, but he missed his brain and survived. He quickly tried to recover and shoot himself in the head again. This time, he shot out both his eyes. Finally, the guards just killed him to put him out of his misery.

  16. anon Says:

In the mouth is fine, just get it way back in there and point straight back. You gotta blow away the medulla oblongata to shut down autonomic function of the heart and lungs, and/or sever the spinal cord (for the same effect). Not a pleasant thought, I admit, but if you’re going to do something, you may as well do it right…

  17. Jay Says:

It’s good to see such determination. Entirely too rare these days.

  18. blackfork Says:

Remember the guy in Florida who shot a policeman and then took off into the woods? The sweep that finally found him shot over 110 rounds and hit him with 19 or so after he made a threatening gesture?

Wonder how many times this guy missed himself while commiting suicide?

  19. HardCorps Says:

police made no attempt to get him and he took a fuckign nap. The blue line is thick in them parts.

  20. LKP Says:

I have been taught in training that 90% of all gunshot wounds are survivable. I have also been trained that the only sure way to instantly or almost instantly incapacitate someone is to shoot them in the lower rear part of the brain. This man had just murdered six people, if he was determined enough he could eventually get it right.

  21. straightarrow Says:

Well, LKP, I survived both of mine. So for me, up to date, they are 100% survivable, but I wouldn’t want to do any further testing of that theory.:)

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
