Kids today

Wow:

Debbie is a mom from Uxbridge who was in the examination room when the pediatrician asked her 5-year-old, “Does Daddy own a gun?”

When the little girl said yes, the doctor began grilling her and her mom about the number and type of guns, how they are stored, etc.

If the incident had ended there, it would have merely been annoying.

But when a friend in law enforcement let Debbie know that her doctor had filed a report with the police about her family’s (entirely legal) gun ownership, she got mad.

Surely, that is some sort of ethical violation that warrants review of that guy’s license to practice.

And from the original story:

They’re watching you right now.

They counted every beer you drank during last night’s Red Sox game.

They see you sneaking out to the garage for a smoke.

They know if you’ve got a gun, and where you keep it.

They’re your kids, and they’re the National Security Agency of the Nanny State.

Kinda timely since, just yesterday, I was talking to a co-worker. Seems her young son (5 or 6) had been participating in D.A.R.E. Her and her husband were drinking beer while watching some game on TeeVee. Her son then screams at her and her husband that they’re both alcoholics. She didn’t know how to react. I understand that there’s a need to inform kids about drugs and alcohol and other things. But that’s ridiculous. Seems parents need to start discussing these things realistically with their kids before they go to school and get their brainwashing.

Schools should educate. Not turn our kids into little Nazis.

Thats why I send my kids to private school.

and why I take them to a doctor who is even more of a conservative gun nut then myself.

  2. Blake Says:

Yeah…I know it’s a bit cliche…but the Nazi’s did brainwash kids to turn in their parents if they weren’t completely in-line with party thinking.

But as far as that doctor goes…wow. That’s completely insane.

If a doctor asks you or your kids about guns in the home, hand him a copy of this form:

  4. David Codrea Says:

Sorry, didn’t realize the link would be cut off–the last characters should be:

    Part_III.htm

  5. Ron W Says:

If a doctor asks about guns in the home, ask him or her if you should maintain an unarmed victim, criminal-safe zone for yourself and your kids. If there’s an objection, say, “you’re free to be an unarmed victim you you choose, but I’m pro-choice on whether or not you exercise your rights or waive them.

This is why, if I ever have children, I’m homeschooling them. I’ve been well-aware of child-policing propaganda, because they tried to do it with me and my classmates in middle school.

That doctor is a fucktard, and seriously over-stepped the boundaries of doctor-patient confidentiality, not to mention tact.

  7. Linoge Says:

One of the first phrases my eventual mini-me is ever going to learn is, “It is none of your [insert appropriate word(s) here] business.” The doctor had no need to ask the child about the father owning firearms – it had no relevance on his job, nor on his capabilities of treating the child. Furthermore, he completely violated all concepts of “doctor-patient confidentiality”, as well as basic good taste and manners, by “reporting” a law-abiding family (can anyone say slander/libel?).

As for the DARE situation… the real question is whether or not that was a product of the teaching, or a product of the very real fear a child has of losing his/her parents (as I am sure the DARE operators illustrated just how bad alcoholism can be for a person). Either way, though, it is somewhat disconcerting what our schools are training our children to be…

    It’s the Nanny Youth squad…

    David,
That link wouldn’t open for some reason, but this one did:
    http://www.2ampd.net/Articles/Horn/Physicians,_Don't_borrow_trouble.htm

  10. Magus Says:

David and AgPilot60, I get a page not found error when trying your links. Perhaps this is the form you’re linking to -it’s the first thing I though of when I read Uncle’s post-:

    http://tinyurl.com/3alr6u

  11. Magus Says:

Oh yeah, Second Amendment Sisters has a similar one:

  12. triticale Says:

It may matter to some people that Magus’s link brings up a .pdf file.

My reaction wasn’t about malpractice. The only basis a doctor has for asking any question is medical. Sharing medical information outside of the medical practice is a violation of HIPAA, and subject to criminal penalties.

  13. Ravenwood Says:

The problem with the links appears to be that they used apostrophe’s and commas in the URL.

  14. Ravenwood Says:

Here’s a link to the actual form (PDF) you should give your doctor:
    http://www.2ampd.net/Articles/horn2/Firearms%20Malpractice%20Form.pdf

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
