True enough, but they can be pretty hard to distinguish from socialists…
That’s because, on certain issues, they are socialists, at least in the colloquial usage of the term. (Technically, “socialism” refers to government ownership and control of the means of production, and no liberal I know argues for this.)
But then I argue that almost no one is a pure capitalist or pure socialist. The overwhelming majority of us, liberal, conservative, or in between, favor socialization of some stuff, and privatization of other stuff. (I know very few people, no matter how libertarian, who advocate privatizing the Interstate Highway System, or the FAA, or the military, for example.) It’s just a matter of where you draw the line.
Virtually everyone supports a socialized military. Ditto for the highways. Most agree on education, too, although the percentage starts to drop precipitously. Working from the opposite extreme, virtually no one wants to socialize automobile manufacturing, or supermarkets, or the film industry. But move toward things like health care, and the numbers start to change.
