50 Cal

Looks like the Senate has introduced the Long-Range Sniper Rifle Safety Act of 2007. (can’t get the link to work so search for S 1331 at thomas). The bill, as written, adds 50 caliber (and equivalents) to the list of items regulated as NFA weapons, specifically destructive devices (i.e., a 50 caliber will be treated like a machine gun, suppressor, short barreled rifles, etc.).

    Not. Going. Anywhere.

And that would be A Senator, not The Senate (unless, of course, there were 100 co sponsors).

  2. SayUncle Says:

Actually, it looks like a few senators. And without thinking, you could probably name them all.

  3. Gringo_Malo Says:

That’s the trouble with the Thomas site: it doesnt’ sort the wheat from the chaff. If you took all the ludicrous bills that are filed seriously, you’d go nuts.

  4. Justin Buist Says:

The GPO PDF work good for a permanent link

  5. Robb Allen Says:

Anyone want to help me build the first 12.69mm? It’s not 50 cal, but should serve the same purpose.

  6. Justin Buist Says:

Robb, the bill actually puts a limit of 12,000 foot pounds on rifles.

It’s not written like the California ban.

  7. Robb Allen Says:

    11,900 foot pounds then

I wonder if Sen. Hillary Clinton will go duck hunting with her Secret Service agents during her campaign. After all, she’s for “reasonable” gun control.

That’s not a fault of Thomas. It’s designed to list all the bills and not pass judgment on them. All obfuscation rightly belongs on the shoulders of the critters themselves.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s110-1331 Short and easy to read at 510 words. Clearly written to be understood by the rabble, but the fact that they posted an upper limit on foot-pounds shows that some thought was put into it.

President Clinton would sign this. So would President Obama. Also President Schwarzenegger and either Bush, sadly enough.

    Yep. Here they are:

Sen Feinstein, Dianne [CA] (introduced 5/8/2007)

Sen Boxer, Barbara [CA] – 5/8/2007
Sen Clinton, Hillary Rodham [NY] – 5/8/2007
    Sen Dodd, Christopher J. [CT] – 5/8/2007
Sen Durbin, Richard [IL] – 5/8/2007
    Sen Kennedy, Edward M. [MA] – 5/8/2007
    Sen Lautenberg, Frank R. [NJ] – 5/8/2007
Sen Levin, Carl [MI] – 5/8/2007
Sen Menendez, Robert [NJ] – 5/8/2007
    Sen Mikulski, Barbara A. [MD] – 5/8/2007
    Sen Schumer, Charles E. [NY] – 5/8/2007

11 original co-sponsors (none surprising) and no action in over 2 months.

Like I said: Not. Going. Anywhere.

Maybe she’ll invite Dick Cheney to go hunting with her…

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
