Dude, free holsters

TN Gun Owners reports:

Fobus USA is currently offering a FREE paddle, double mag holder, with the purchase of one of their three, new style paddle holsters. The double mag holders have a list price of $24.00. Buying a $29.95 holster and getting a $24.00 mag holder free sounds like a good deal to me. Check it out at www.fobusholster.com. They say “FOR A LIMITED TIME”.

Couple years ago, there was a video showing just how easy it is for someone to grab the butt of your gun (encased in one of these plastic hosters), yank it in a certain way, and the whole holster would break off, leaving you with the paddle in your pants, wondering for a split second how bullet-proof you were going to be before your assailant got your gun into action against you.

For me, it’s a belt-attached leather or ballistic nylon holster for concealed carry, and if I was going to go to open carry, it would be a Level-3 retention holster. Cops use these retention holsters, and even they, who are now extensively trained in weapons retention, still lose over half their pistol-killed number every year to “police officer’s pistol”.

If you’re going to carry, you have to retain, yet you hardly EVER see retention mentioned on any gunny’s website. For the states that have a practical exam before issuing a CHL, I would be in favor of seeing mandatory retention training.

It’s not that hard. The training keys are:
    1. Learning to walk and confront with gun side away.
    2. Learning to spot in advance potential gun grabbers (hint, watch the EYES)
    3. Learning the protective move to keep your gun in your holster, OR, recognizing that a gun-grab is a prelude to your murder, ALWAYS, drawing and shooting the grabber (involves drawing/shooting while backstepping, another skill you have to master).

Couple of hours of practice with a partner and a dummy gun of the right model, and you will be MUCH MORE confident about your carry. The available videos are good, but NOTHING will beat some actual practice.

I recall the video. Ravenwood tried it with his and could not duplicate it.

    See here, here & here.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
