Ten years of CCW

In Arizona:

Ten years later, officials say gun-carrying citizens responsible, deterring crime.

If the number of concealed-handgun license holders is any indication, robbers may have to worry about getting more than stolen goods during a heist.

[lame ass references to hot lead omitted]

With an increasing number of state residents legally packing heat, more robbers may be taking away some hot lead.

More than 54,000 Oklahomans are licensed to carry concealed handguns under the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act, said Jessica Brown, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. That number is up from around 31,000 in 2000 and 15,081 in 1996, after the first year of licensing. Once approved, applicants are licensed to carry concealed weapons for five years. After five years, they are required to renew their application.

In the beginning, some people thought a wave of shootings by license holders would occur, but those fears have proved to be unfounded, Brown said.

Where’s all the blood in the streets?

Where’s all the blood in the streets?

In the minds of the gun-ban er -control, um –safety groups, where it’s always been.

  2. Squeaky Wheel Says:

I don’t have a lot of faith in people as a whole, but it’s really disturbing to me how little faith the people who come up with these “bloodbath” accusations have.

You have to believe in the following scenario:

Criminals talking with one another. One says, “Lets go shoot that so and so.”
The other says, “We can’t, fool!. Don’t you know we’d have to conceal our guns, and that’s illegal?”

    Or

Criminal wants to commit crimes with a gun. Decides he must first apply for a concealed carry permit, so as to avoid breaking the law.

    And a related one:

Criminal approaches a school for the purpose of shooting people inside. Sees “Gun Free Zone” sign, then says to himself “Shit! No guns allowed!” and turns away.

And yet, there must be a significant number of Americans who actually believe in the above scenarios.

Then there are the real scenarios: Honest, peaceable citizen thinks about bringing a gun for protection when traveling. Decides all the legal and logistic hassles are not worth it and leaves gun at home, then gets raped or murdered.

Student understands the value of self-protection. Campus rules are against it. Student gets killed by one dumb-ass, along with 30 other innocents who also don’t have weapons.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
