In a surprising move, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership doesn’t support allowing weapons on campus

No really:

A new report from the Brady Campaign to Combat Gun Violence says colleges may have legal problems if they allow students to carry weapons on their campuses.

Courts have long recognized an obligation by colleges and schools to provide a “safe environment” for students. Courts have found, in many previous cases, that colleges were liable in attacks that occurred on campuses.

Actually, court cases I’ve read rule the government has no duty to protect you.

This is the same nonsense they pulled when claiming that allowing employees to CCW was a “legal problem.”

Their report on workplace CCW blithely claimed that the chance of a violent attack on employees at work was too remote to be “foreseeable,” and therefore the employer couldn’t be held liable for failing to protect against it OR for refusing to allow CCW so the individual could protect against it.

BUT at the same time, a CCW’ing employee going nuts WAS “obviously foreseeable” and therefore it would be “reckless” to allow CCW on company property.

I don’t know of anyone who actually read the workplace report, but I am sure the college report will get more press time because of the hot issue.

The government has no duty to protect you NOR does it or should it have the power to deny you the RIGHT to acquire and carry the means to protect yourself.

I would call this premptive press release encouraging. Brady Bunch is reading tea leaves and getting worried. CCW on the part of teachers certainly ought to be allowed. Legislatures should amend all the gun free zone designations to allow permit holders to be there.

  4. Standard Mischief Says:

Years of CCW, and evil black rifles without the dreaded bayonet lug and look what happens. We have a tragedy and people start to think, “why shouldn’t extremely law abiding citizens with carry permits be allowed on campus?” or “well, it looks like those gun free zones certainly boost the body count, crazy people just don’t respect the rules, I suppose”

At first, I’ll bet the brady bunch was dancing in the blood, celebrating. Now I guess they’re shitting bricks.

  5. Ron W Says:

I think that most people are finally figuring out that “gun-free” zones are “criminal-safe” zones that are especially well-kept for mass murderers.

So, when do the lawsuits against VT start?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
