the sign said long-haired freaky people need not apply

An update on the guns in parks/public buildings bill in Tennessee:

Frank Nicley (sic) gun bill was given a 90 thousand dollar fiscal note (for signs to tell people that they can carry in all the parks)and was sent back to budget sub. from calender committee.

Now, I support allowing people to carry on state/city owned property. But the signs idea is really stupid. I think AC was right:

Iíll tell you what the point of the sign is and it is not about protecting anyone. If there is a provision for a sign there has to be an outlay of money to pay for the sign giving the powers that be one more chance to kill the bill in the Finance Committee. Thatís all that was ó nothing more.

Could be. I could see someone saying: I supported the bill but the mean ol’ state wouldn’t pay for signs!

Wasn’t it a generally anti-gun Democrat that tacked this onto the bill in the first place?

[…] Say Uncle piggy backs on Stacey Campfield’s reporting that the legislature hung a $90,000 fiscal note around frank Frank Niceley’s state park conceal carry bill. […]

My thoughts exactly on the signage provision. They couldn’t have been more transparent if they’d asked for funding to call everyone at home and let them know that carrying guns in parks is legal now.

How about CCW holders pledging to foot the bill themselves? There have to be several thousand in TN, $100 each would be worth it to make the Dems in the legislature look silly.

Briley first amended the bill to require the signs then added the poison pill fiscal note on their cost. Info on this bill, its amendments and fiscal notes are here.
