Well, I’m a kvetch. A 2-pound sledge is for driving another tool. Like a cold chisel or star drill. Or a monkey-wrench to loosen a rusted pipe. Nine inch spikes are just big nails and you need a “big nail” hammer. Like this one.
Ouch! is right. That photo kinda makes your hand look more like a foot with long toes. At least you only clobbered your least important shooting finger.

Cool. But you were using the wrong hammer then. You need a twenty-eight ounce framing hammer with a knurled face.

i used a 2lb sledge type to drive in 9 inch spikes.
