One should not overlook a good .30 M1 Carbine, either. Light as a feather with decent power (.357 magnum class). Easy to reload and easy to shoot.

Ahab here – you know, I thought long and hard about the .30 Carbine, and despite a deep personal abiding love for it, I had to leave it off the list because the ammo isn’t always easy to come by. If you want .357 punch from a rifle, get a Marlin lever gun, if you want rifle performance, get a .223 – that was how I was thinking.

Again, anything is better than a pocket full of rocks.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
