What could possibly go wrong?

Err, cold dead hands, and all:

The Union of Islamic Courts senior leaders have today ordered the armed businesspeople and ordinary people to hand their weapons over to Islamic Courts, issuing decree concerning the ban on weapons in the capital Mogadishu.

Not to the classes (business people and ordinary people): If you do, turn the ammo in first.

Somalia had become kinda an accidental libertarian utopia there for a while after the US pullout, reportable having some of the lowest rates for cellular coverage in all of Africa and having capitalism flourish due to the lack of any governmental oversight or taxes. Unfortunately Somalia probably has hidden underground exploitable resources.

While I’m halfway surprised that some oil company didn’t just hire Blackwater or Dyncorp for security and move in, buy the arid land dirt cheap and start pumping, I suppose private armies have yet to become powerful enough to secure land without governmental support. It’s probably also cheaper to just get taxpayers to help fund the job.

All of this is a round about way of saying eventually the international community would/will pressure/create a sovereign nation for/as Somalia, and that sovereign nation’s government will eventually start trying to what governments naturally do and take away it’s citizen’s inalienable rights. For the new government’s benefit and security, the people must be disarmed.

Though if the actual formation of a government is inevitable, I’d probably much prefer that the hoi polloi learn English as a second language, rather than Chinese .

We’ll see a “purge” shortly after the seizure is completed, I bet.

Well we now know where we can expect another genocide. Don’t we?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
