But machine guns are banned

In Britain:

FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD girl from north-west London stands accused of conspiracy to supply a machine gun capable of firing 1,000 rounds a minute.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is one of four suspects from the area who appeared at High Barnet magistrates’ court charged with gun-related crimes.

She was charged with possessing two revolvers, a Mach-10 machine gun and a second machine pistol.

I think it’s a Mac-10, though.

One thing that I doubt many gun banners consider is that, if you create a profitable black market in firearms, people aren’t going to be that discriminating in what they are smuggling. It’s also a lot easier to manufacture a submachine gun than it is a lot of other types of firearms. I seem to recall reading somewhere that there were plans circulating around the UK on how to manufacture a submachine gun using parts from a bicycle pump.

Mach-10…that’s one fast machinepistol…maybe the USAF can use the technology for the replacement for the SR-71

    “Mach-10” – heh. It’s not only fully-automatic, it’s hypersonic!

It’s the new scariest gun in the world!

The latest issue of the Small Arms Review has a writeup of a conversion for the Mac(h) 10 to put a 50 round Calico magazine on it. The reason this interests me isn’t the increased capacity; it’s because the converted reciever ejects cases out the left side, making the firearm suitable for a left-handed shooter.

Doesn’t the Mac-10 take grease gun (or was it Sten?) mags?

So you’d convert it to accept Calico 50 rounds for a net increase in cost of, what, $75 per mag in order to shoot lefty?

That’s a good chunk of change. Per mag…

Sebastian, I’ve seen those plans. It is 99 percent home depot stuff, and you get a 15-20 round 9mm submachine gun. You assemble it with hand tools and the like. Quite clever. There are even plans included for making the magazines yourself.

For the entire gun, you basically just trace the plans on to sheet metal, snip it, drill it and hammer it around wooden blocks to form the receiver, etc. The rest is just mixing and matching various hydraulic fittings and pipes and drill bits to make the appropriate size barrel and chamber.

There are even simpler derringer style weapons you can make. The hardest thing to make is probably the ammo.

Those spray and pray guns don’t do much for me.

    Beerslurpy,

If you’re talking derringers, black powder is dead simple.

Regardless the ban, people WILL have weapons.

Well, I can tell you from experience with an M-16 and an M-60 that a Mac-10 might be mechanically capable of firing 1,000 rounds per minute, but in the real world I doubt anyone could reload it fast enough to fire more than 400-500 rounds per minute.

That’s assuming, of course, you’ll still be able to hold it when the barrel starts glowing after about 200 rounds.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
