Surprising

In the poll I mentioned yesterday, I am surprised that National CCW is in the lead. In fact, it would be last on my list as that is successfully being handled on the state level except in places where it’s a lost cause. So, go vote.

Update: Now, it’s the Supreme Court.

    For those of us who live in places where it’s a lost cause, national CCW is the only hope.

    National CCW prolly impacts the most people. When you look at that list, several of the items are niche items. More people have CCW licences than have NFA guns. So it’s not surprising that CCW would be a bigger draw.

    Personally, I voted CCW only because I see it as more likely than getting the Hugh’s Amendment overturned. Hugh’s is probably be my biggest “want”.

    Yeah, I voted for it despite the state’s rights issue. I do actually believe that states should be free of federal meddling on this and most other issues, but for the purposes of an internet poll, I just voted for the thing I thought was coolest.

    A national CCW would be in accordance with Section 1 of the 14th Amendment:

    “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

    Keeping and bearing (carrying) arms is a basic right in the 2nd Amednment and certainly the pre-existing right of self-defense would be included the 9th Amendment:

    “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

    As here in Tennessee, CCW laws intrusively ascertain the criminal background, or lack thereof, and law-abiding status of those who CHOOSE to exercise their right to carry a weapon for self-defense. So surely that is a right which is clearly in accordance with the Bill of Rights and pursuant to: Article IV, Section 2:Section. 2, that

    “The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States”

    and should be protected everywhere in the United States as all the others are and should be.

    I Agree it would be a state’s right issue, except for the fact that there’s something called the Second Amendment.

    Speaking from a person that lives in a state where you can’t legally bring a gun two doors down to a friend’s house without transporting it in a vehicle’s trunk, unloaded, with all the ammo removed from the magazines and locked in a separate container, this law (that would allow me to get a permission slip to exercise the lost nationwide right to carry) would be a godsend.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
