Exploiting tragedy and lying

A child was tragically killed by a stray bullet. And the anti-gunners are dancing in the blood of the poor girl:

A visitation was held Tuesday for a Chicago teenager killed by a stray bullet. Starkesia Reed, who was an honor role student, was hit by gunfire while standing near the window of her family’s home in the city’s Englewood neighborhood last Friday morning. The 14-year-old’s killers have not been caught.

This shooting not only devastated Reed’s family, but it terrorized the entire block. Seven other homes were hit by stray bullets in the 6700-block of South Honore. The shots were fired from an assault weapon. Community activists are calling for a renewed ban on assault weapons.

How do we know that? If the shooters haven’t been caught, there’s really know way to know what kind of gun it was. It could have been an illegal machine gun. More:

Members of the group Cease Fire marched down Reed’s block Tuesday calling on neighbors to become more involved and the city to provide more funding for a program they say is working.

“That was a 45-percent reduction in shootings. We know the program works, and it needs to be funded by the state, the city and the counties so we can get the right resources in these communities,” said Rev. Robin Hood, Cease Fire.

Which program was working? It is implied that the program is the assault weapons ban, which we know has been shown to have had zero effect on crime and homicide.

I usually don’t do this, because it’s happening more and more, but I’m feeling fiesty this morning.

The reporter HAS to know the difference between role and roll (honor role). Relying on spell checker won’t always keep you from looking like an illiterate punk.

Neither will telling half-truths/lies about gun control. Probably a product of the Chicago school system.

  2. Captain Holly Says:

Reminds me of a story not too long ago, where someone was shot with some type of 7.62X39 caliber rifle and the cops automatically assumed it was an AK-47.

Because, as you know, only Assault Weapons kill people.

  3. Sigivald Says:

Holly: Well, damn few things that weren’t applicable to the AWB fire 7.62×39.

It was, after all, designed as an Assault Rifle (in the literal, technical, historical sense) cartridge…

Maybe the cops just assumed that nobody would be cheap enough to shoot someone with a Simonov? (Yeah, that’s a joke.)

  4. Captain Holly Says:

Just quibbling here: With so many more SKS’s in circulation, my point was the assumption that it was an AK was definitely premature, and was probably motivated by prejudices of the cops rather than actual evidence.

But then again, some cops would probably consider a plain-Jane, unmodified SKS with a 10-round non-detachable magazine well to be an Assault Weapon.

  5. Lyle Says:

Don’t forget the Ruger Mini-30, and the fact that there have been bolt action rifles chambered for the same cartridge. And as we all know, a new gun ban law on the books (a pile of papers sitting in the capitol law library) will stop a criminal from shooting people, whereas a law against reckless endangerment, assault, or murder, will not.

  6. Duane Says:

So was it the Illinois State Police who had the “illegal machine gun” or just the common type criminals?

  7. Ron W Says:

I noticed that when the man recently drove an SUV into a crowd of people on a college campus, he was charged with “assault with a deadly weapon”. Any gun, knife, bat, vehicle, etc becomes an “assault weapon” when it is used in a criminal assault.

Duane, good question. Government agents keep for themselves what many government officials want to keep from the citizens. They have the real “assault” (full-auto) weapons, illegal without expensive and intrusive federal permits since 1934. Such weapons are commonly used for military assault tactics, yet they call semi-auto weapons which are excellent self-defense weapons, “assault weapons” to demagogue and villify them in order to foster ignorance and bigotry for their citizen disarmament agenda.

The so-called “assault weapons ban” only applied to semi-auto weapons IN THE HANDS OF CITIZENS and the government was exempted–what happened to the 14th Amendment’s “equal protection of the laws”? If gun control is good for us, then why isn’t it good for them? Why is it that government hired guns are good, but those held by free, law-abiding citizens are bad?

“As the 20th century proved, guns in the hands of governments kill vastly
more people than guns in the hands of civilians. “Gun control” is nothing but a
power grab by criminals called politicians.” –Lou Boyd

“Gun control has cleared the way for seven major genocides since 1915, in which governments gone bad murdered 56,000,000 persons, including millions of children.”
-Aaron Zelman of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership
