Veterans’ Heritage Firearms Act

David Hardy reports that the NRA has come out in support of it. The bill would allow a 90 day amnesty to register NFA weapons that were acquired overseas between June 26, 1934 and October 31, 1968. First time in recent memory the NRA has done anything for the Class 3 folks, I think. Now, let’s get on that repealing the Hughes Amendment, the NFA tax, and the sporting purpose language.

They are on the sporting purpose language thing . . . doing it quietly, but have been hard at work on that and correcting ATFs recent bonehead decision to not allow import kits anymore.

Had a long conversation with a friend at NRA-ILA about this about 2 weeks ago. He said both were priorities for them now that they got the Lawsuit bill

  2. Standard Mischief Says:

Good to see my buddies at the NRA are there to ensure my right to register my class 3 firearm. If I had one hidden for this long, the only way I’d register now is to sell the damn thing.

NRA, you are way overdue for some real progress here.

Why did they arbitrarily pick 31 Oct 1968? Do they suspect that some massive number of AK-47s were smuggled in from Vietnam between then and our withdrawal in 1973?

    GCA of ’68, maybe?

I’m against it. We should repeal the NFA. Until then all this does is allow the government to know about weapons that have been successfully kept off of their lists (and out of their sight) for a minimum of 37 years. I say keep them of the lists.

While the 1968 date does bring to mind the GCA of ’68, I fail to see why that would be relevant to this issue. ???

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
