Random Political Commentary

Kerry is in big trouble. As far as I know, the only things remotely scandalous about him are his wife telling someone to shove it and the made up story about his treachery in Vietnam. Oh,and he cussed his guards. Regardless, they’re relatively minor things.

However, there is a Bush scandal, real or (usually) imaginary, every couple of weeks: His evil ties to big oil, the Plame non-scandal, the lack of vast quantities of WMDs in Iraq, Abu Grahib, he was selected not elected, everything in F911, etc. Yet the polls are always close.

What does this say? I’m not sure. It could mean the people don’t trust the sources of these supposed scandals. It could mean that people just really like Bush. Or it could mean that people really just don’t like Kerry.

I think what you are seeing is that most people have made up their minds and that this election has been particularly polarized. Either Kerry or Bush could be found in bed with a live boy or dead girl and I doubt that it would make much of a difference.

Ultimately, I think that the election hinges on a small number of people who are truly undecided between Bush and Kerry. Beyond that, it comes down to turnout, and convincing 3rd party voters (i.e. I hate them both, B/K is closer to my opinion, but I can’t vote for him).

I would also note that Kerry has survived the whole Fonda connection, being anti-war after Vietnam, a 20 year career in the Senate where he voted on countless bills many designed specifically to embarass people into voting against pork laden “Puppies and Grandmothers Act” type of stuff.

Or it could be like 1980, where the race was close until the last couple weeks when the undecideds moved to the challenger.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
