Like you and me, only better (2 in 2 days)

The Fraternal Order of Police announced that President Bush has taken a strong stand in supporting the Law Enforcement Officers’ Safety Act. This bill exempts off duty police and retired police from local and state ordinances prohibiting carrying firearms.

I have no issue with not restricting the right of off duty police and retired police to carry firearms. However, all citizens should be allowed to exercise their rights. Special privileges like this one (and the firearm exemptions for politicians) are an affront to liberty. It’s OK for me but not for thee.

Wonder what the FOP’s position is on HR 990?

Dang…I can’t pull up the link, but it would basically allow anyone with a valid CCW permit-or who is allowed to carry concealed without a permit in their home state (AK & VT) to carry a concealed weapon anywhere.

Personally, I think this law is a bad idea. It continues to policy of making the police ‘above the law’ of not having to abide by the same laws everyone else does.

Considering how much various police groups are lobbying for gun control these days, I’m opposed to giving them backdoors to escape the lousy laws they want to foist on the rest of us.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
