But I thought guns were illegal in DC?
CNS:
Police have confiscated more than 700 guns in the District of Columbia so far this year — and they confiscated more than 2,000 last year — in a city where it is illegal to own handguns, WUSA-TV, the local CBS affiliate, reported.
“Eighty percent of our homicides involve the use of handguns,” Chief Ramsey told the TV station. “Now, we have very good gun control laws. But it’s not difficult to go someplace and buy a gun outside the District,” he said.

So there’s nothing wrong at all with the concept of gun control laws—the Chief says that theirs are “very good.” It’s those pesky criminals sneaking around and buying guns in other jurisdictions!

I love this line:
“But it’s not difficult to go someplace and buy a gun outside the District“.
Well, um, actually, it *IS* difficult, seeing as how IT’S A FEDERAL FELONY to buy a gun in one place and own it in another – i.e. I live in MA, which has strict gun control laws. I can’t buy a gun in NH, which has less strict gun control laws, and bring it to MA UNLESS I AM LEGALLY ALLOWED TO OWN GUNS IN MA.
If I bought a gun in NH and brought it to MA:
a) I am breaking FEDERAL LAWS.
and
b) The gun store is breaking FEDERAL LAWS.
I can’t buy a handgun that is not a Smith & Wesson or a Glock thanks to our Nazi of an attorney general, yet this bozo is claiming I could just waltz across the border to NH and pick up a Charter Arms Bull Dog.
Imbeciles. Or liars. You make the call.

Both?

This buffoon doesn’t realize that it’s not difficult to buy a gun anywhere, IF you do so illegally. Is he implying that the perpetrators of homicide are people who go to neighboring states, and legally purchase firearms through legal venues?
This guy’s on crack.
And, speaking as a fellow Masshole, I second the thoughts of Jay above – our AG sucks.
Criminals who have no problem ignoring the law that says murder is illegal will have ZERO regard for any gun control laws. It’s a joke to them, and it’s a slap in the face of law-abiding citizens.

Of course, he’s also trying to say that it is hard to buy a gun in D.C.. While this may be true for citizens who obey the law, illegal guns are just as available in D.C. as is prostitution and drugs.
But why blame your own city when you’ve got Virginia and Maryland to point fingers at. See, it’s those gun slingers in Virginia who have the lax laws. Over here we sell guns door to door and have trucks that drive around the neighborhood ringing a bell trying to drum up business.
