Rep. John Hotstettler was briefly detained for carrying a gun into an airport. He does have a permit. A couple things:
If this was a citizen and not a politician, then they would be in jail.
He was headed to Washington (I assume DC), where handguns are banned.

Congressman are constitutionally immune from arrest if they are on their way to the Congress. Whether he invoked this or whether this applies in this instance, I don’t know, but while I agree in general with your point (see, e.g., former Dallas coach what’s his face), Hotstettler is actually in a different legal position than you or me.
