Quote of the day

I, not cops, got bad guy

This was said by Hale DeMar. The Wilmette man who shot an intruder and is being charged with bogus gun crimes. After idiot George Carpenter (the police chief) told everyone they’re safer locking themselves in a room and dialing 911.

Note to Carpenter: Fuck you. I don’t hide in my own house.

I remain the number one google for idiot george carpenter.

I don’t agree with Carpenter, but I don’t agree with your “I don’t hide in my own house” statement, either. If I were single and lived alone, I might very well decide to go hunting like DeMar did. DeMar, however, had his small children in the house. I would (and do) view protecting my family as my highest duty. If I were faced with DeMar’s situation, I would grab my gun and round up my family members into my bedroom, and find them cover and concealment. I would stay with my family prepared to defend them if the intruder came within sight.

Remember, when DeMar went hunting, he didn’t know the nature of the threat he faced. He didn’t know how many intruders he faced, where they were, or whether they were armed. By acting as he did, (unless there’s more to this story than the letter contains) he left his children undefended in an upstairs bedroom. If one or more of multiple intruders managed to get upstairs, or if DeMar himself were incapacitated, there would be no one standing between DeMar and his kids.

I applaud DeMar for having a gun, and for being willing to use it. I think he did a stupid thing, though, when he left his kids undefended. I don’t think saying, “I don’t hide in my own house” is a good idea, if it encourages someone to risk leaving their children at the mercy of goblins.

I agree with your sentiment on general principle but it’s my house and no one comes in uninvited. Mrs. Uncle is pretty handy with a .45. I would likely dial 911, arm the Mrs., leave one of the dogs with her, take one dog with me, arm myself and investigate.

If i had a child (who is coming in June), their room is on the other side of the home and I would be forced to check on the child’s safety. That would involve arming myself and going to my child.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
