Michael Steele as RNC Chair

Apparently, he’s express anti-gun sentiment in the past:

Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?

A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you’re going hunting? That’s overkill. But I don’t think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what’s the point of passing gun laws if we’re not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that’s where you need to start. We’ve got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it’s about how we enforce the law.

However, he states also that he supports enforcing existing laws and no more gun controls. I think maybe Mr. Steele should be educated about weapons that look like assault weapons and that gun owners should let the RNC know their opinions.

If the Republicans are this stupid, just imagine how stupid the Democrats are.
These people don’t know ANYTHING about ANYTHING.

  2. Breda Says:

hmm…I was anti-gun two years ago too.

  3. Lornkanaga Says:

I’d love to take Mr. Steele out for a little “range therapy” just so he could see, and feel, why many gun owners love to shoot.

Alas, hubby and I have neither the time nor the energy to do so. I’m not even sure if Mr. Steele still lives in the DC area.

I’d say we need some context to the statement. He was/is a politician in the Peoples Republic of Maryland. The statement preceding this quote seems to indicate it was made when he was Lt Governor. That statement has lots of doublespeak. The fact he didn’t come out against assault weapons is a good sign in my opinion. It’s not like coming out against guns in general would’ve hurt him in Suburban Maryland since that is the side of DC most infested with liberals.

Markie Marxist sez: “Permanently banning assault weapons is no longer controversial, it’s just common sense communism. Even the new head of the Republican Party agrees with us. It’s nice to see a common sense Marxist running the RNC. The extent to which the political right has collapsed in the ‘Age of Obama’ continues to amaze me. It’s turning out to be a bigger rout than we Marxists imagined.”

The quote was pre-Heller — Heller cleared some of this up, saying militia arms were to be protected, ergo, the ruling made mention of the M-16/AR family of rifles. Which is probably why Fienstien has been so quite.

Depriving people of self defense weapons, which are now overwhelming semi-auto pistols, will be tough as well.

Not saying it’s a done deal they will leave them alone, since it clear Democrats are all about raising taxes, funding socialism and gun control, you figure out the connections, so we need to press the court cases as hard as we can.

When you consider this quote: “Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace.” — James Madison — We are down two of those items already.

  7. Phelps Says:

Yup, Steele’s issue is in education, not principle. That’s why I wasn’t worried. (Even if it does line me up for some harsh words from the III crowd.)

  8. Standard Mischief Says:

Heh, I stayed home because of his wishy washy record on the RKBA, and his refusal to take a stand.

So it looks like the GOP wants to continue that strategy of saying, “we’re weak as shit on the RKBA, but at least we’re not Clinton” while pretending to take back the crown of the “party of fiscal responsibility”.

  9. Tom Says:

Not one thin dime from me. No more bailing out failures.

  10. Jim W Says:

Steele sounds like he was caught off guard and unprepared. This sort of shit will have to be rectified if he is going to have a successful term as chairman.

I’m not going to condemn him yet.

  11. dave Says:

I love the idiotic hunting reference.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
