the happy fun ZOMFG we’re all gonna die thread

So, with gun demand at an all time high; ammo prices up; people stocking up on regular capacity magazines; and all the other gun related news after this election; what are you going to buy?

Leave a comment. And if you happen to find a good deal, leave a link. Someone else might want one too.

As for me, I got some AR receivers to finish and a WunderNine to buy. And ATF cashed the check a couple of weeks ago so the NFA purchase should conclude soon.

  1. J Richardson Says:

Well, I bought 2000 rounds of .223 on Election Day, another 10 30-round magazines on Wednesday, and 2000 once-fired Lake City brass last week. On last Saturday, I bought another 10 30-round mags plus 5 13-rd mags for the Browning HP.

For anyone looking for decent price on stripped AR lowers, there is a group buy in progress on http://www.1919A4.com. They have put together a group buy for DoubleStar lowers. From what I read these are made by LMT. The price is $78 plus shipping. You do have to register for the forum before you can post a message. I think the money needs to be to the group coordinator by mid-November.

Unlike some others, Anvil Arms is keeping their price on a stripped lower at $100 or so but will begin charging more for their laser engraving.

    Hope this helps.

    John

  2. Robb Allen Says:

Bah. I’m broke as usual. Gotta buy a few 20 round magazines for the 6.8, and I’m dangerously low on ammo, but I have a feeling that won’t be as big an issue for a while.

Then again, I’ve still got 600+ rounds of 7.62x54R so I’ve got that going for me.

  3. Jim Says:

    Oct. 25 – Oly Arms K3B (atlanticfirearms.com)
    Oct. 31 – 30rnd PMags (mygotimegear.com)
    Nov. 5 – 1,000rnds 5.56 (ammunitiontogo.com)

I am expecting my hopechange unicorn in mid-February, with an AWB soon to follow.

  4. JD Says:

With cash low I am only buying ammo as needed. I already have my EBR so all set there and I don’t see an issue getting guns for Cowboy shoots in the spring so. . . .

  5. Rustmeister Says:

I’m in the same boat as Robb, although I will find a way to shit the money for an XD(m) in 9mm. 19+1 capacity. That’ll make Obama cry.

Other than that, maybe a couple 20-rd magazines for the Mini-14. I’m good otherwise.

  6. Nate Says:

Dipping into savings to get an FAL and some FAL/AR mags
    A bunch of .308, .223, .45, 7.62x54r, .22, 30-06….I better get buyin’

  7. ATLien Says:

need some mags for the 92fs, mags for the AR that’s not done yet (ouch), and ammo. lots of ammo. i’d like an ak, but that looks undoable now. I have 7.62 NATO weapon, so it’s not like i don’t have anything comparable.

I still think we should march on Washington with our guns. They should see what might happen if they piss us off.

  8. Madrocketscientist Says:

I too am pinched for cash, although I do use my VA pension to buy ammo whenever possible (appropriate and ironic at the same time, eh?).

I do want a semi-auto rifle that can hold more than 10 rounds, but I don’t know if I’ll have the cash anytime soon. Maybe next month I can think about a lower and build from that, if there are any left.

  9. Sebastian Says:

Two AR lowers, maybe. One stamped “Hope” and the other stamped “Change”

  10. drstrangegun Says:

I have parts and receivers on the way to build 3 AKs.

  11. chris Says:

managed to get a parts kit and receiver for a romy G kit last month and an AR lower ordered last friday…

  12. DoctorK Says:

Picked up a Mossberg 590 12 gauge nine round pump shotgun and a M1 carbine (from CMP) because I am concerned about future restrictions on sales, importing and manufacturing of similar types of firearms. Looked over ammo inventory, was going to dispose of excess 30-06 but changed my mind. A little low on .223 but good on .45, 7.62×39, low on .38. Haven’t stocked up on .30 carbine yet. In pretty good shape on AK and AR mags.

  13. Matt Fulghum Says:

just bought two more 30rd pmags this morning at del-ton for 14.95 apiece. have decided the likelyhood of a ban on transfers makes buying more rifles a bad bet, so I’m buying conversion kits for my AR and p-220. Top Gun has the sig conversions in stock right now, and I’m thinking Spike’s Tactical for the AR. all this is dependent on the (democrat, who thinks I’m overreacting) wife approving.

  14. John Hardin Says:

I’d love to get a .308 bolt gun (the Savage 10FP-LE2 looks nice) but $13k of dental surgery just got dropped into my wife’s lap.

Thank goo’ness I already have my battle rifle and ammo stocks…

  15. anon Says:

Seems to me that the truly forward thinking approach would be buying blank forgings, a lathe, and a mill&drill…

  16. Mike Says:

I simply can’t afford to stock up on anything right now, but if I see another AWB once B-rock gets in office, I’ll cash out my IRA and invest heavily in ammunition and a few EBRs to sell (or equip friends).

  17. James Says:

picked up a bunch of 30 round AR Mags
Picked up additional 17 and 33 round 9mm Glock mags.
Picked up some extra 12 round HK USPc mags.

Need to pick up a couple of cases of ammo next time I’m home. I’d like to have an invntory around the 2k mark for the .45, the 9mm, and the AR. Need some 12ga shells too.

I’m also considering buying a .22LR revolver and a .22 LR lever gun.

    –Jim

  18. georgeh Says:

Bought two Rock River upper and lower receiver sets from Brownells. Not my favorite, but they were available.
bough a bunch of their fine 30 round mags while I was at it and ordered a C Mag.

This weekend, it’s ammo ordering time.

I’m gonna have to wait till the first fo the year to try to buy a .308 AR and an FAL, but I’m buying magazines now.

  19. Linoge Says:

Two weeks ago, I got 1k rounds of 9mm and 1k of .308. This week, I snagged two regular-capacity M1A magazines, went down to CCA, and picked up two DPMS lowers for $130 a pop. Two weeks from now will be 1k rounds of .223, an appropriate flash suppressor, four AR-15 pattern magazines, and its pistol grip.

    After that… who knows?

  20. DirtCrashr Says:

I’m broke too. No NFA available here. Only 10-round magazines available. All I can buy is ammo. I don’t have a back-yard in which to bury anything.
We’re gonna be gone in the first wave of Obama’s civilian SA Corps kristalnacht round-up. They have the luxury of “practicing” on us when they start their shit on the West Coast – early when all you guys Back East and Midwest are asleep under warm covers.
When you wake up and find-out, don’t think poorly of us.

  21. Dan Says:

I was thinking of trading in my AK for something in an AR format. I do not know which is the best of these calibers though, .450 bushmaster, .458 socom, .50 ae, .50 beowulf, and .308. Leaning towards the bushmaster, from what I hear.

  22. Goold_ol_Al Says:

    got 500 rounds .30 carbine
4 mags in pouch from Numrich (was $50 plus shipping)
    a few 00 in 12 ga

  23. Rivrdog Says:

Creating a list now for reloading components. Decent high-expansion OR high-penetration bullets may go the way of the dodo next year.

Gonna stock up on some more XTP in various handgun calibers, and some 165-gr BTFMJ for the 7.62 NATO. With any ammo dollars leftover, I’ll buy additional spam cans of 7.62X39…Christ, it looks like I’m gonna need a backhoe as it is…

On a secondary list is a furnace, molds and swaging dies for cast bullet forming ops. I doubt if PzO will ban lead…yes, Virginia, there ARE cast lead loads for the 7.62X39….

  24. Heartless Libertarian Says:

Count me as another pinched for cash, and I have a move coming up at the end of the year that’ll set me back some more.

But part of the reason I’m pinched at moment is that I bought a Saiga-12 and a couple of 10 rounders the weekend before the election.

As for purchasing strategy, I’m torn between another AK, another AR (or at least lower) and ammo, and saving up for a SCAR-H.

  25. jed Says:

Yeah, me got no cash either, and what I do
have available is going to buy a car. And a
    cheap car, at that.

I did, however, pick up a lower about a month
    ago, because … I couldn’t afford (still can’t)
the Garand I really want. But hey, it was
    something.

I’ll be picking up parts as money becomes available.

  26. DirtCrashr Says:

    Get the ammo.

  27. emdfl Says:

Especially get the ammo that has to be imported. “Stroke of the pen; law of the land.”

  28. jesse Says:

I’m hoping to pick up at least two AR lowers, compliance parts for the four AK parts kits I haven’t opened yet, reloading equipment, and components for at least 1,000 rounds of .223 to go with what I already have.

If I can free up more cash before a new AWB gets passed, something evil and black in .308 would be nice.

Basically, any spare cash I can manage to find will go towards politically incorrect firearms.

  29. the pistolero Says:

PTR-91 (HK G3 clone), three extra G3 20-round mags for it and 100 rounds of 7.62mm NATO. I bought the gun from Texas-based wholesaler CDNN (transferred through local FFL) for right at a grand. Not sure if they have any left, but then I was surprised they had them a week ago when I bought mine. http://www.cdnninvestments.com or 800-588-9500.

  30. Laurel Says:

    So far:
20 30-round AR-15 mags (scored a deal before they rose 20% and another 30% after that!)
1,000 rounds 5.56 (assuming ammunitiontogo.com is actually processing orders)
    500 rounds .40 S&W (also ammunitiontogo.com)

We’ve blown a good chunk of our savings at this point and have barely made a dent in what we really ought to have… But it’s better than nothing.

  31. charles Says:

I just started shooting this year and have already wiped out my cash buying up guns in the last 9 months. Normally, I would doubt the sanity of spending this much in a short time, but I saw the election coming, having been in IL when the President-elect ran for Senate. That said, I have ended up with an M1A, two Garands, a Thompson 1927A1 Commando, a 1911, a couple revolvers in 45Colt and .357Mag, three .22LR plinking guns, a .30-30 levergun, a Mosin-Nagant M44, and two 12Ga shotguns – one for HD and one for clays/hunting. I am going to start reloading .45, .308, and .30-06 as soon as my press and tools are delivered.

  32. charles Says:

Gunbroker was good to me this year.

  33. Heartless Libertarian Says:

Not me, but between them my father-in-law and sister-in-law bought 3500 rounds of ammo today.

Oh, and I need to put a CMP M1 carbine on the list, if they still have any.

  34. Rob K Says:

I’ve been hoping to buy an AR in a larger pistol caliber since Indiana last year legalized deer hunting with pistol caliber carbines, but now? I’m buying nothing! I just got laid off thanks in part I’m sure to Captain HopeChange and his democrat brigade.

Anybody need a software engineer in central Indiana?

  35. Gun Blobber Says:

I am working on a new post saying what I’ve got and what I’m planning on getting…. however, I will disclose my political crystal-ball-gazing here:

Having just read a fair amount of MSM political commentary, I am somewhat sanguine. It looks like BHO and the DemCon will have enough pressing matters on their plates to last at least a year or two before they get around to trying to ban those evil ol’ guns. Honestly I don’t see why the Dem leadership would waste any of their (granted, copious) political capital on something that even their most loyal constituents would liken to fiddling while Rome burns or rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. We will likely see large economic/banking reforms/stimuli/tax revisions/redistribution of wealth, global warming taxes / alternative energy promotion, major health care initiatives, immigration reform, education issues, and dealing with the war(s) and various diplomatic issues before they get around to gun control. Each of these major issues could easily take months of debate and wrangling. All of these issues will be highly contentious, even within the Democratic party, and they are the stated priorities of both BHO and the DemCon leadership.

In other words, we are still screwed, but gun control is probably on the back-back-back-back burner, and depending on how much the economy continues to suck, we might not even see GC rear its ugly head in a BHO first term. I’ve got my fingers crossed, but even in a worst-case scenario I think that we will have a good year to year and a half to buy our AR lowers, etc.

Now there is certainly the terrifying prospect of what can be done solely within the executive branch, which leads me to believe that we may very well see a cutting off of imported weapons, parts kits/demilled weapons, and ammo. Of these, the ammo would hit the hardest, since the parts kits appeared to be drying up anyway, and there aren’t all that many foreign-made likely-to-be-banned guns that I really care about, with the exception of Saiga rifles and shotguns. I would imagine that Eastern Bloc (esp. Russian) guns and ammo would be the first on the chopping block. So there’s the executive threat to imports. I also can’t forget to mention the prospect of a truly mean BATF, as opposed to the merely incompetent one we’ve got today.

  36. Mikee Says:

Having an ample supply of ammo and firearms left over from the last Clinton election, I now only grab up impulse-purchase guns on a long list of “want but don’t need.” Most recent was a lovely little Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless in .32 ACP. Refinished, but a nice little shooter.

There is only so far one can go in the category of home defense guns, or urban SHTF rifles, before the allure of blue steel and finely checkered wood grips becomes irresistable.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
