Transition Team
The Outdoor Wire has confirmed from confidential sources that the “transition team” for the Democratic candidate has already begun looking into the current approval system for firearms transactions. It seems the digital recordkeeping approval recently granted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) has piqued their curiosity. With a virtual Form 4473 in existence, we should be on the lookout for a new record-keeping initiative that will “simplify” the hassles of off-site digital record storage by allowing FFLs to, say, store the information on secure governmental servers. Of course, the government will never access the information.
If true, that’s frightening.

I’ll tell you that in my day job, I was recently asked for advice related to implementing a firearms DB and giving it to local governments. They’ll provide turnkey computer systems that will allow localities to get instant and easy access to lists of gun owners, cross-reference it with lists of convicted people, etc. Somehow this was related to the “gun-show loophole”, although I never got clarity on that point. The idea is that if you give local and state government cheap, easy ways to track this stuff, they’re more likely to do the tracking. The project is seeking support from one of the usual non-profit anti-gun groups.
All of this is just to say that anti-gun folks want to implement databases because they think they can curtail gun ownership that way. I tend to believe them on that point.

Federal law prohibits all sorts of stuff, but it only tends to affect us little guys and not the actual governmental entities.
Why not just round up all those you don’t feel should be able to own a firearm and imprison them. That way they can’t do as much harm to society.

I imagine this being semi-voluntary–No FFL will be REQUIRED to use this system, but those that do will no longer be subject to sanctions for improperly-completed 4473’s.

Guys, and gals…please! He won’t take our guns, nor does he want to….just ask him and his followers.
This will be used for the children, in a common sense sort of way, you know, hope for the change that you can vote for.
Get over it, it’s a dead issue, just ask the New York Times….

I saw this coming when the batfe first came up with the idea of a computerized 4473. How stupid do you have to be to believe that this sort of thing WOULDN’T be misused? Me, I’m getting everything that I want and can afford before the before next January. and then moving, heh.

Of course no state or federal entity would keep a permanent database, right? Not even Delaware, the last miscreant caught at it, but certainly not the first.
