Seven Years

That’s how long it’s been since the attacks on the US. I’m not going to wax poetic about the event but going to point out something that gave me pause. On the news this morning, there was coverage of a memorial by US troops in Afghanistan. What struck me was that some of those guys were 11 years old when the attacks occurred. Wow.

It could have been a lot different. That was 9/11/01 and this is 9/11/08. That first 9/11 could have been the start of a series of attacks on the US, one after another, after another, with no end in sight and a government that was powerless to stop them.
However, a Jimmy Carter was not in office, sitting on his hands and impotently whining, while Muslims held America hostage. We had a real President in the White House who unabashedly took the fight to the enemy, full force, and in two different countries no less.
Al Qaeda never attacked on American soil again. Our best defense was a good offense.
Not only did the President have the courage to initiate those forceful responses, he had the tenacity to persevere in them, year after year, despite the relentless, shrill howls of disapproval and even hatred that he had to endure from the political left.
Today, his critics have fallen mostly silent, uncertain of what to say in the face of his successes, and America’s successes, successes that the political left tried so hard to prevent.
There is the saying, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. The Democratic Party and Al Qaeda have far too much in common.

Here in Israel, we remember. We also remember the reactions of our “Peace Partners”.

Thanks for making today political Chas.

Disgusting that people still want to beat that drum. Fuck you.

  4. ATLien Says:

Suck it, Sebastian, he has a point. The leftiest of the leftards wants to be the President. Remembering how they’ve acted since that day forward should be important.

  5. Sebastian-PGP Says:

I could sit here and dismantle his attacks and respond in kind you dipshit, but I’ve got enough class to know better. Give it a rest, asshole.

  6. DirtCrashr Says:

I am an infidel. I grew up playing and going to school with Muslim kids in South Asia – and now I am an Infidel. A sickness has taken root in some, and their philosophy is to strap bombs onto their children, their retarded adults, and their chastened women and send them out to kill and die. It is a Death Cult and there’s no “talking” to them.

  7. persimmon Says:

Chas should read the 9/11 Commission report. Richard Clarke had a counterterrorism plan against al Qaeda ready to launch in Dec. 2000, and Clinton chose to alert his successor to the threat and the operation so Bush could launch the plan. This was the primary reason Condi Rice retained Clarke as head of the National Security Council. Bush ignored the threat and sat on the counterterrorism plan until Sept. 4, 2001.

If Gore had succeeded Clinton, American Special Ops forces would have been after bin Laden and his gang while the hijackers were still in flight school, and it is highly unlikely a Gore administration would have ignored the many warnings from other nations about an impending attack, had the plan gotten that far along despite the counterterrorism operation.

  8. DirtCrashr Says:

That’s a level of optimistic confidence in Gore that I can’t even imagine in a Global Warming dream state.

  9. straightarrow Says:

Oh my aching ass PGP, you are arguing with fact. I don’t like Bush even a little bit, but Jesus Christ! what Chas said is true. It is undeniable, and you are pissed off by success? Excuse me, but Fuck you.

  10. Sebastian-PGP Says:

    Hey SA?

Right back atcha–first of all, it’s not fact, as Persimmon points out. I could sit here help him destroy Chas’s argument, but that’s kinda the point–I have enough class to recall that 9/11 is a solemn day of remembrance and shouldn’t be a political cudgel for hacks like you, but rather a day where we remember that the enemy isn’t Democrats but rather OBL.

But since your beloved W A) went after a country in an incredible boondoggle invasion that had nothing to do with 9/11 and B) really dropped the ball in the days leading up to 9/11, I guess you’d rather not discuss that, right?

Seriously. Do us a favor and go fellate a shotgun.

  11. DirtCrashr Says:

    Oh-so much class.

  12. Sebastian-PGP Says:

Dirt–I certainly have no interest in a long drawn out battle about which political party is to blame for al Qaida. People on the right apparently are.

That pretty much settles that. Anything else? Didn’t think so.

  13. persimmon Says:

Apparently DirtCrashr needs to read the 9/11 Commission report just like Chas. If Gore had won the election, the anti-al Qaeda plan would have been launched in Dec. 2000 when it was completed. It might not have prevented the attacks, but it had a much better chance of success than what Bush did.

  14. Sebastian-PGP Says:

While I have an inclination that you’re right, persimmon, I think the important thing to note is that A) this is all a matter of OPINION and not FACT as has been suggested by some less scrupulous folk here, and B) rather than lob said opinions back and forth, why not focus on the fact that as Americans we have a common enemy and using a national (no, scratch that, international) tragedy for partisan gain is really crass.

  15. straightarrow Says:

Nobody suggested that 9/11 was anything trivial or to be exploited for personal or political gain. Except you, I mean.

Ok, asshole. Where has AQ struck us again on our soil? Where is AQ now? How many public streets do you see them parading down in Muslim nations with no fear?

As for Iraq being a non-target, because AQ wasn’t there. That has been debunked time and again with actual proof. They were there before we got there, they trained there, or did you forget that? Just one example, Salman Pak. Not the only place they trained, but one of them. Since there was a war on with Iraq and the terrorists were being given have there, it made sense to end the phony armistice and end the war against Iraq and Hussein and dispossess AQ of one of their bases and sources of assets. It also sent a message to other nations, who may not be especially enamored of us, but really don’t want to go where Iraq did. That works.

I don’t mind you not liking Bush, I don’t like the constitution shredding sonofabitch either. But I certainly don’t have such a weak grasp on reality that I must deny fact in order to hold my opinion.

I suggest you may not have very well developed reasoning ability if that is what you must do.

Let’s see, now, one more thing. You really believe in 7 months AQ envisioned, planned, and executed the 9/11 atrocity because they waited until Clinton was out of office and Gore didn’t win? Yet you call others crass?

Get goddamned real! They attacked us because we are Americans. They attacked all of us. But your position is it was caused by conservatives alone? It was caused by muslim jihadists against all of us. I don’t think the word crass means what you think it means.

  16. straightarrow Says:

I will not wish upon you the fate you would have me gain for myself. I don’t have to, I don’t hate you, and I know you are wrong. So, of course you want me to shut up.

Am I to assume you will vote for McCain? After all, he did his best to kill the first amendment for fear of spoken and written thought. Sounds like he would be your guy.

Not mine. Nobody who tries to destroy the constitution or the BOR will get my vote. Another difference between us. Or would you have preferred he and Feingold made repeal of the first amendment more in keeping with your shotgun policy?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
