Oops

Biden can pull some real boners:

Biden slipped a bit during the introductions, through no fault of his own. In introducing local elected officials, from Ninth District Congressional candidate Judy Baker to former Gov. Roger Wilson, Biden tried to give a special recognition to Sen. Chuck Graham of Columbia.

“Chuck, stand up, let the people see you,” Biden says. He was a bit chagrined when he realized that Graham uses a wheelchair.

… shortly after realizing his gaffe, he recovered saying, “Hold on, stay right there, Chuck, let me call big O to lay his hands upon you!”

If it had been Barry that said that we may have seen a miracle performed, according to his followers he is capable.

  3. Chas Says:

Telling a man in a wheelchair to stand up is nothing compared to what would have happened to Biden if he had misspelled “potatoe”. Apparently, the media couldn’t care less about the handicapped, but misspelling a word is an unforgivable offense.

  4. Chas Says:

Oh, and Palin’s gonna make moose burgers out him.

  5. Harold Says:

BTW, Quayle getting mouse trapped at the spelling bee is a fantastic example of how bad management of a campaign can destroy a politician (and it sure didn’t help the campaign, although I think G. H. W. Bush bears almost all the blame, “Read my hips” and all that).

His people were handed a bogus cue card by public school teachers in New Jersey (which should have caused the clue phone to ring) and they didn’t catch that archaic/common misspelling “potatoe”, and, well, the rest is history.

When Palin was picked, someone commented on how critical it was in these situations to make sure she had first rate staff to avoid these sorts of things, a problem which I suppose has been solved for the time being by everyone wondering if she and McCain separated as P/VP candidates normally do, if she’d pull in the bigger crowds ^_^.

(This should/could/might taper off in a few weeks, but for now, if for no other reason that how she’s driving the liberals/Dems/MSM/Cyber Cockroaches/Obama and his campaign stark raving mad, McCain needs to go with the flow. That he’s willing to do this says good things about him.)

I blame the American people for not electing Kerry/Edwards in 2004. If they had, stem cell research would have had this guy miraculously jumping from his chair, and Biden’s gaffe would have been no gaffe at all.

  7. KCSteve Says:

In Biden’s defense he recovered well, recognizing his own gaffe (probably due to extensive experience) and asking the crowd to stand for him.

But on the other hand, he was looking right at him when he asked him to stand up. Now most people, looking at someone in a wheelchair wouldn’t ask them to stand, but apparently once you get on a roll having people stand to be recognized…

  8. Lyle Says:

Nothing to see here. I’d rather have principled people in office who made the occasional gaff, than unprincipled officeholders who were perfect speakers. This sort of thing makes a side-show, but it’s meaningless.

How many of you have done public speaking? It’s not as easy as you might think. You can know exactly what you’re talking about, and what you want to say, and still make a fool of yourself.

If we’re going to decide all votes on who’s the better orator, we’re shooting in the dark. If we’re going to make a big deal out of our enemies’ gaffs, we’re going to be hypocrites when we dismiss the gaffs of our guys.

Look at Biden’s record– that’s what makes a pathetic fool of him. Likewise, I don’t care a whit about anything McWhatshisname says in the campaign– I already know the guy. Same goes for Palin– She talks a good talk, but let’s look at her past performance in office. Obama has no record, just promises of being the new Santa Clause.

  9. Manish Says:

but misspelling a word is an unforgivable offense.

ah…how dare the media question the absolute brilliance of Dan Quayle.

He will never get to pull mine.

    DOH!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
